Harlan, This particular Sarah Rape was the daughter of Peter Rape the daughter of Gustavus (Reeb) Rape, who was the son of Johann Peter Reeb (brother to Johann Michael Reeb and both were sons of Gustavus Reeb & Anna Margaretha Stroh Reeb). This Sarah Rape married William Berry. Evidently the person who wrote all or part of a book on Christian County, Illinois history, had interviewed Sarah Berry. I have often challenged any of the Rape family descendants to explain to me what it means when in the Christian

4. Sadness at the loss of RFA and Thank you Shannon for the newsletter [1]
Shannon, I am so sorry that the RFA is folding. I do want you to know the committee I volunteered for and was told of the chairperson and some of the other members never came to be. I have not heard one word from the chairperson except her introduction. I am sorry this group did not work out. Thank you for all the work you have done on behalf of the Reeb Families Association. I will miss that wonderful newsletter you developed and produced so well. Thanks again. Aileen Norris

Thanks for the correction. We all strive for accuracy, but we are all human. I've forgotten, is Walker County in Oklahoma? Harlan In a message dated 04/19/05 10:06:02 A.M. John, I am happy to keep a lookout for the DeMotte name. I'll do a little digging to see what I can find. If I locate anything, I'll let you know. Harlan In a message dated 04/18/05 8:48:51 P.M. Welcome home Werner, it is good to have you here. How is the family? I have missed you; not long ago I asked John V. if he had heard from you. Dave and I are busy with our four year old granddaughter, Cheyenne. She lives with us and is the center of our hearts and lives. I look forward to hearing from you again. Aileen G. 8. Hi [1]
Hi! I just joined the list. I hope some of you may remember me from the first time this list was started. For those who do not: My name is Werner Reeb. I am a German and I live in Bingen on the River Rhine. My family is not related to yours - at least as far as we know by now. Its roots can be found in nearby Roxheim/Weinsheim area. But kindled by John V. my interest in the whole group of Reeb families and their movements and development grew over the years. So curiosity and Johns announcement to r

Cousin John, I'm sorry for the loss of our cousin and your good friend. Would you mind just giving us a brief listing of Helen's family tree from Helen back to Washington Clark Rape? I'd like to get her in the proper place in my copy of the family tree. Thanks John, Harlan M. Zeinstra
10. Re: [GUS-REEB] Sadness at the loss of RFA and Thank you Shannon for the newsletter [1]
Aileen, I just wanted to say that I too am very sad about this. While I did not agree with everything that took place in the RFA I am sorry that the problems could not be resolved in some way to at help keep the bond between the descendants of REEBS who lived in the Keskastel (western Bas-Rhin) region. Five years ago when the RFA was started we had up to 129 subscribers to the REEB-ROOTS E-mail list and also many of these also subscribed to the GUS-REEB list. Since the RFA did provide other means of communi

I wish to express my appreciation to Aileen Norris, my cousin who is a descendant of Henry Rape the youngest full brother of my great great grandfather Archibald Rape for bringing my attention to an incorrect date of death for my great-grand uncle Thomas Jackson Rape, the oldest son of Archibald and Mary (Hancock) Rape. 14. Helen Rape Helms [1]
It is with much sadness that I post this information to this list. Helen Rape Helms was born 7 February 1923 to the late Roy Cecil and Lona Stilwell Rape of Union County, North Carolina. Without listing her entire lineage, Helen was a descendant of Washington Clark Rape, a son of William Howard Rape, who was a brother to my own great great great grandfather, John Rape, both being sons of Johann Peter (Reeb)Rape, born in Philadephia in 1759, and who was the eldest proven son of Johann Peter Reeb, our immigra
15. End of an era but not the end of our family history [1]
As much as I complained during the past five years, perhaps contributing to the sterotype that men of the southern Rape family can sometimes be very difficult to get along with, yet I will miss the publication of Reeb Roots. It is almost an embarrassment to see "The First Family Newsletter" depicted on p. 7 of the final issue of Reeb Roots. I am truly proud to claim the editor of Reeb Roots as one of my cousins. But now that the era of the Reeb Families Association has come to an end, will the momentum so

For any of you who are not interested in reading what I have to say about my true friend and 6th cousin, Luella Rape Evans, please don't bother reading any further because that is the subject of this e-mail. During the past few years in both of the Reeb e-mail lists there have been many mentions of the book THE RAPE FAMILY TREE. Many times I have explained that the book was done by Nell Taylor Norvell from the results of one phase of my research which I started in the late 1970s with the assistance of Luel

Nancy, I don't think Luella is on either list but I will forward a copy of to her. She is one smart and very patient lady. Every so often I receive something from her and won't immediately understand the connection but over the years I have learned that she really knows what she is doing because it always turns out that what she sent not only does connect but within it there is something which adds some facts to our family history which we did not know about before. Cousin Aileen, Yes Helen was the same relation to you as to me. Like Mr. Zimmer Rapp who was also very helpful to me during the years I searched for our family history in North Carolina records etc. and who served as Master of Ceremonies at three different Reeb-Rape Family Reunions, 2 in NC and 1 in Quitman, TX and Melvin Rape who sent me the obit from Kanapolis, NC (Cabarrus County) Helen was a descendant of Washington Clark Rape son of William Howard Rape who is named in the Last Will & testament of Joha

Harlan, Walker County in this case is located in the northern part of Georgia at the Tennessee border. Just prior to 1834, my greath great grandfather Archibald Rape left left the part of Mecklenburg County, NC which became part of Union County in 1842 and went to to Walton County, Georgia where the family of Thomas Hancock who had known our Rape family for at least two generations and married Mary, daughter of Thomas Hancock. Then the Hancock family and Archibald Rape all moved to Walker County where t
22. Christopher Rape [1]
The following query was received from Jerry/Mary Keepers pertaining to Christopher Rape who lived in Glocester County, New Jersey during the time of the American Revolution. Years ago I did find quite a few references to this Christopher Rape who, if I remember correctly, evidently was involved in some kind of business involving ships. I remember seeing an abstract of a document made during the Revolutionary War which pertained to a trial or some court suit against Christopher Rape. I did not understand the

I wish to welcome Werner Reeb who all of you know was the Vice President of the Reeb Families Association during the five years of it's existence. A few years ago when we first began the GUS-REEB list Werner was the first of those who were not descended from Gustavus Reeb to join our list. Oliver, If you ever notice any tombstones or see any data on people who have lived in your County in Colorado for a family named DeMotte I would like to hear about it. Oliver DeMotte was a son in law of Sarah Rape Berry. After Sarah's daughter Ida died Oliver did live in Boulder County. I think he eventually moved to CA. However, one of their sons named Claude was married and at first lived with his father there in Boulder and was there in 1910 census, however, I lost track of Claude after that time. J
