I read Myka and other e-mails re death certificates of our Reeb/Rape/Raye ancestors as I too am interested in cause of death and age when died. It seems that neither the Reeb/Rape etc men nor women lived to be very old. I looked up my grandfather Cosby Waters Rape death certificate and in the bottom of the file drawer came across a card that looked similiar to a theatre ticket. It had C.W. Rape and 4 dates Apr 22,1932;Apr.23, Apr 25, and Apr.28, 1932 there was a little hole punched out by each date a
Thank you John for adding me. I am not a descendant of the Rape family. I
am married into the Rape family. When I started researching my family (I
believe in 2001) I also decided to do my husbands family along with mine so
my children and grandchildren will have all of their family history. My
husbands mother was the great granddaughter of William Rape.

I am very happy to welcome Pat, a descendant of William Rape who was a son of Christian Rape and a grandson of Johann Theobald Reeb who was born 1769 in Keskastel, Nassau-Weilburg, formerly Nassau-Saarwerden and after 1793 part of Bas-Rhin department of France to the GUS-REEB list.
I am also requesting Pat to introduce herself to the list and if she will to please provide a little or a lot of her lineage. Please welcome Pat to the list. Thank you.

Diann,
In response to your question as to how I keep the Peters and Henrys of the southern Rape family sorted I think the answer is that I did not learn about them at the same time. I became aware of them, on an individual basis not because I was looking for them but their names were ususually mentioned in their fathers records or the record of some other close relative.
For example, during a period long ago when I was ordering the Wills and deeds of Mecklenburg and Union County, NC, I fo
In my genealogy program files one of my reference sources for a fairly large segment of the data pertaining to what most of you probably notice that I refer to as the "The Southern Rape Family" wherein my own direct lineage is found, is the name of James Weber Raye. Jim began a correspondance with me at some time a few months before August of 1995 and this continued up to only a few days before his death on 30 August 1995. Although we never met face to face and indeed I do not even have a photo of

Hi, Hello, Hello,
Welcome to the group, I pretty much follow John V's roots. Glad to have an
informative person with us.
You mentioned neuromuscular disease. Do you track it through the relatives?
I track as much medical information as I can. It is very interesting.
What type of afflictions are you interested in?
Diann Dillow Again, welcome.

Pat, Thanks for your post. Can you please provide some names? What was your husband's mothers first, maiden and married names? Since you know that she was a great granddaughter of William Rape, which of his 15 children was her grandparent. Possibly we can help with more information but it would be helpful and possibly educational for us to learn a little more. Also, can you give a brief outline of what you might know about the ancestry of William? Do you know the European data etc.?

Thank you for replying to me. I worked in a hospital for 9 years, so my
medical interest is within me.
My Mother, Fern Dillow, nee Reph had tremors so badly that by the end of her
life, she would shake all over. Not always, but definitely most of the
time. The doctor told her she had Parkinson's Disease. She took L Dopa,
but didn't like the effects. However, she did not die due to the Disease.
My Mom's intestines ruptured and she never fully recovered. She did live
until she was 85.
My sister,
Thanks Rhonda & John! Through the years I learned the meaning of "nee"
through its usage, but did not know its origin. Good question & response --

I believe that I descend from the same branch as you do but my grandfather Henry was the youngest son of Yohann Peter Reeb. There is not too much on my Henry because his birth date is only @ 1766 and nothing is known about the name of his 1st wife and she was believed to be the mother of all of his children. I have also visited your area, the Pleasant Grove Campground, Waxhaw, and the
church cemetary where Johns grandfather Peter Rape (Rev.War) was burried. I enjoyed reading the Osborne diary (what ther

Hi, Myka. Welcome to the list.
My line is through Catherine Rape, daughter of Johan Peter and Anna Maria.
Catherine married David Funderburk. My great-grandmother was the
great-granddaughter of Catherine on her father's side, and the
great-granddaughter of Elizabeth Osborne on her mother's side. This
Elizabeth was the sister of John Osborne (of diary fame).
I envy you being so near all the home places, and look forward to talking to
you about the common ancestors we have.

Thanks for the nice welcome, Diann. Medical research was part of my job as
a paralegal, years ago, and a natural extension of my genealogy research. I
have gathered death certificates for many of our Raye/Rappe/Rapp/Rape/Reeb
family members here in NC, and have contacted many cousins who share their
family medical history with me. All contributions to the Reeb/Rape/Rappe/Rapp/Raye
family medical history will be much appreciated. We will all benefit from
sharing this information. I will gladly
Dear Pat, It is always nice to welcome new people to the list. Put us all
together and we probably know quite abit about the Reebs. We know our

I do understand that this subject will probably not be of interest to most of you since probably no one on this list will recognize the family of the subject mystery. However, although a few generations removed from the REEB surname, I can assure you that this particular Schneider family who lived in Columbus, Ohio were indeed Reeb descendants and were originally from Keskastel, Bas-Rhin, France. If anyone does just happen to want a better explanation of how they did fit into the Reeb family in Kekas

Rose,
I sent out an e-mail a few days ago containing some Franklin County, Ohio Reeb marriage records. I have not seen any thing since. Did you get that e-mail.
One reason for me not posting much on the southern Rape line is because I have been very busy with some of the Reeb descendants of both Franklin County, Ohio (project to get all the marriages of Reeb descendants of different sur-names who came to the Columbus area beginning in the 1830s from Keskastel) and also some very interestin

Thank you John, for such a gracious introduction.
My branch of the Reeb family has lived in the Carolinas for more than two
hundred years, primarily in the areas surrounding the NC-SC border. I
regularly
pass by the site of Peter Rape's Tavern, Peter Rape's final resting place,
the Pleasant Grove Methodist Camp Ground that was built by Peter's son
