Wow Diann, you summed it up well. I just returned from vacation and have my hands full with all you just mentioned, plus trying to catch up with emails!
Wishing you all well.

John, First, I was not being critical about The Church of The Latter Day
Saints. I have used their material for 22 years. I depend on the censes,
but it is not always correct. I don't really care who gets my research. I
was thinking of you. I know you want to go further and write a book.
I wrote to Gedcom and I will see what they have to say. I am also going to
clarify my information on Family Tree Maker......so I can post, so that you
may understand me. I have difficulty getting my correct tho
I do not belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints however I do not believe that just because the gedcom idea was started by that Church that it will necessarily cause data to get into their hands any more than if someone provides their data to the Church, voluntarily.
My genealogy is not even on a computer which is hooked up to the internet. The gedcom provides a way of transferring the data to other computers alson not conencted to the Internet. So how can that provide a means of transfe
Welcome Shelley! Don't be fooled by the recent "quiet" of this list to
which John referred. It has been very active, and will soon be again. John's
description of his pleasure, from sharing family history with you, well describes
the benefits of this list for all of us. The Gus-Reeb List is a door, to
cousins and branches of our family tree of which we know little or nothing. We
learn much from one another, through the information exchanged here. It has
been a blessing for us all. We are please

I have checked the data you gave to what is in my files. In fact you added one item, the middle name of Raymond Wood Thompson. However, I am behind and need to do a lot of work on my Rape files. I may still hold some items which you provided that still need to be added to my files.
I will send you the cd for the gedcom of the Reeb/Rape-File this file is titled Reeb-Reeb. However I request that after you receive this file and have time to check at least the data which pertains to your direct line that you
Rose, you may be in the horse and buggy days but lets face it, part of the goal of family historians should be in accuracy and it is a lot easier to try to do things just a little too fast. It is much faster to make a typographical error than to make an error when you are willing to slow down enough to do it the old fashioned way.
Instead of using the computer for speed in entering the data which we hope to help us recapture our family history we would be wise to be patient enough to get it as correct as

Due to all the off subject (non genealogy) posts to the list and to the petty discussions on the list during the month of June we have lost enough subscribers to the Gus-Reeb that NO list administrator can take pride in. The quotations out of context of some of my posts, many having absolutely nothing to do with the Gypsy subject, in some cases the adding of personal remarks of the poster to their supposed quotations of my words and other activities (gossip about the list activity) resulted in my learning
At least twice, years ago, I installed Family Tree Maker on my computer and each time soon afterwards I found I did not like it and that it was inappropriate for my genealogy. However, I realize that apparently the overwhelming majority of Americans do use Family Tree Maker. I have a question and I hope someone can please help me with this.
Is is true that when I provide data to persons who do use FTM that when they transfer that data into their system that anyone who uses FTM will have access to it. D
John, as you know I have the Reeb Roots Family Association Newsletters in a
binder and pulled it out to read. Very impressive indeed. Thanks for telling
us that we already have this data in hand.

I , personally appreciate this very much. Mr. Hayden Rape was very helpful to me years ago when I began collecting genealogy of my Rape family cousins in North Carolina. John, I hope you don't mine me sticking me two cents worth in here. Family
Tree Maker does not require nor do they request the user to submit their

company expect me to give them my data just because I use their soft ware.
It simply gives me the opportunity to do so if I wish. I hope I explained

I understand, I was just wanting to confirm that my data was correct. Gail's grandmother Catharine did have a brother named Friedrich who evidently moved to Conde, France and married. I had hoped that James Reeb might be able to help me at least determine which Conde in France was the right one so I could order the film find if he too had children etc. but evidently even James had some difficulty in determining which of the three towns of that name was the right one.

Today someone noticed in the string of e-mails which I believe were originated with either Gail or Julie Taylor and followed by me in one e-mail in which I mentioned the name of Catharina, the wife of Nicolaus Reeb, which was Wurth with an umlaut (two dots over the u) that the name had appeared as "w 1/4." I now remember that Diann had mentoned something about how some of the e-mails sent by me had some kind of codes rather than correct spellings of certain names and I must have been negligent as I did not
