1. Re: [GUS-REEB] GUS-REEB Digest, Vol 3, Issue 42 [1]
Hi from Diann, if Harlan is your 6th cousin then I must be in there some where, because I am very closely related to Harlan. Maybe I am a cousin too. I do not know how to calculate, but it must be around a 7. 2. Re: [GUS-REEB] Introducing myself to the board [1]
Dear cousin Mark, I am very late in getting around to welcoming you to this list, I do apologize for this. However, I join my other dutiful cousins in extending to you warmest greetings. It was good to hear about your Reeb connections. I plan to write to the list with my own biography and lineage, but I am pretty "swamped" right now, having just returned home from an extended vacation. I'm slowly making some progress in my quest to get caught up on the backlog of things that have transpired while I was aw
3. Re: [GUS-REEB] GUS-REEB Digest, Vol 3, Issue 42 [1]
Yes you are, Diann. I never thought about it before but since all of the descendants of Gustavus Reeb are related to Rollin through the Guth family, maybe that is why I like Rollin so much. Well I know one reason and that is because he is full of wisdom just as you are. So I am proud to claim both of you as my cousins. But I do not think the relationship between Harlan and Rollin is quite as close as 6th cousins. I say this because if I am not mistaken I am a 6th cousin from my cousins who are in my gener

5. [GUS-REEB] JOHN MARK RAPE [1]
Rollin and Diann, I am trying to follow Diann's example and help keep the string short so that posts will not get bounced. Rollin, I appreciate very much your making the obit available to all of us. It was Jeanie who wrote to me and in her letter has offered to assist me with pictures or other items which I might want. I am just thankful that although it was only a short time association I was able to learn enough to know that this young man was one willing to take responsibility for himself and als
6. [GUS-REEB] String too long [1]
I sent the paragraphs below after clicking on to one from Rollin then having it returned from Rootsweb saying it was too long. I am thinking they meant the entire string so I cut and pasted the content and it appears below. On this one I am positive you are correct. However, I want to compare the generations and relationships between Diann & Harlan to John Mark and myself. My mind seems to be a little foggy this morning and my first thought was that John Mark and my immigrant ancestor was the older broth

8. Re: [GUS-REEB] China Trip [1]
James, How wonderful that you took your friend to China, she must have been very happy. Did you get to see the Great Wall? I have been looking at all the picture and articles on the Beijing area. I did my sight seeing from the computer. It is wonderful to go to new places and see things with your own eyes. The news media distorts the truth or magnifies the bad. (notice, I did not say always) It is the same, in someways, in genealogy. People hear about a castle and the name and then try to identify t

10. Re: [GUS-REEB] Cousins - Diann & John V. Reeb [1]
John - I calculate the same as you with your relationship to Diann (6th cousins once removed). I do need to get my head around Rollin's ancestry ... I just can't figure that one out. 14. [GUS-REEB] Deutsch Family error in my data [1]
Stephanie Stewart if you are still with us, I have just now found an error in my data on Dorothea the daughter of Johann Adam Deutsch and Maria Magdalena Mager, who was married to Jacob Schille. My excuse is that the baptismal record was out of place in the Keskastel churchbook so I entered her date of birth as 23 October 1843 and the baptismal date as 26 October 1843. The month is incorrect and should be changed to September. My problem was that this baptismal record was entered late and therefore show

I also wish to welcome to Mark L. Rappe to the List. I too wish that you will enjoy the dialogue, sometimes frequent sometimes not but none the less occuring helping you to learn of and meet new cousins in North America and Europe. Rollin W. Ulrich Goshen, IN
16. Re: [GUS-REEB] Interesting Cousin Relationships [1]
Truley John, this is an interesting aspect of our genealogy. Very confusing to my mind, right now, but as I study the information, I am sure it will reveal itself. Many cousins married cousins, mainly because there were not that many people around. Also, because the really did not consider it to be a problem. Love enters our lives in many strange and different ways. Cousins, are included. Diann dcdr Please answer on a new message, as not to make this one to long. Just say, Re: Interestesting Cous
17. [GUS-REEB] Mark L. Rappe [1]
Like others, I wish to welcome Mark L. Rappe to the gus-reeb list. I've enjoyed reading what you shared with us, Mark. My immigrant ancestor was George K. Reeb, my grandfather. He was born in 1885 in Keskastel & came to America in 1903. My husband [Stan] & I just took my mother [dau. of George K.] to Riverton, WY to celebrate her brother's 90th birthday. It was a grand celebration which George Alvin Reeb ['Uncle Jerry'] enjoyed immensely. I did share this group's birthday wishes with him, which
18. [GUS-REEB] A word of caution about Copyright violations [1]
Recently, a Family Tree, which I believe was from someone in South Carolina has been sent to an internet site which is in the business of providing genealogy to paying customers. This particular family tree contained an additional item concerning two paragraphs from a book pertaining to a death record which had been translated from German script plus one paragraph written by the author of the book which is copyrighted with "All Rights Reserved" and also contains the instruction which reads "Permission to re

J. Mark Rape - I am trying to 'connect the dots' and need your help. John V. Reeb wrote: John Mark is a descendant of Gustavus Rape the second born child of Johann Peter Reeb who was born 1729 in Pisdorf (now Bischtroff-sur-Sarre) and who arrived Philadelphia in 1752 aboard the ship HALIFAX and remeined in Pennsylvania until sometimes in 1766 when he and his family arrived in Salisbury, Rowan County, NC. >From your message below: John Mark Rape, son of Lillian Ann Hensley and Larry Charles Rape, son of
20. Re: [GUS-REEB] GUS-REEB Digest, Vol 3, Issue 42 [1]
On this one I am positive you are correct. However, I want to compare the generations and relationships between Diann & Harlan to John Mark and myself. My mind seems to be a little foggy this morning and my first thought was that John Mark and my immigrant ancestor was the older brother to Diann and Harlans immigrant ancestor. Just considering the ages of all four of us, I think I may be a generation before Diann and Harlan also possibly a generation before John Mark. Without looking at a side by side type

22. Re: [GUS-REEB] Interesting Cousin Relationships [1]
This information is very interesting, but somewhat confusing to me. I will read it again, for now I am confused between the Mauer and Neubauer names. I do recognize the other names and I know they are related somehow, but not knowing the full story, it is complicated. I suppose you know that. Diann, Hope you will excuse me for doing this, but I think I might just as well put it here on the list as well as keep you informed. I have received a couple of other responses to my messages sent to the persons who have been using data from our Reeb family data especially your and my immigrant ancestors grandfather Johann Peter Reeb the husband whose wife Anna Margaretha Guth caused us to be kin to Rollin. As I mentioned to you one person claimed that one of our Johann Peter Reebs was son of a man nam
24. [GUS-REEB] Another Site for you [1]
Sorry to send to separate emails, but I didn't want to respond to myself. I get Dick Eastman's letters every day and he has so much info. So here is another site to take a look at. Also NARA ihas proposed to digitize records for Ancestry.com (The Generations Network) known as TGN.) Another bit of news is that Rootsweb will join Ancestry. Ancestry has always supported Rootsweb, so the change will be in access. www.rootsweb.com to www.rootsweb.ancestry.com. I do not know when this will happen. I think
