2. Lawrence Co. OH [1]
I found the Lawrence Co. OH genealogical website very nicely done, with many transcriptions from old newspaper notices & stories, and other records. Here's what I found on Gustins in their material. The "Lawrence Register" website is at http://www.net/user/Historical/. This appears to be part of the family of Samuel J [efferson?] Gustin, son of Amos & Susannah Jones Gustin. MARRIAGES 1. 3. Bruce Gustin's wise analysis [1]
Applause for Bruce Gustin's thoughtful comments in issue #38. Ideally, every piece of data should be accompanied by a citation to at least 1 primary source which can be verified independently, now. Unresolved conflicts and unverified data are "in question." I suspect most beginnners do not question enough, and sincerely pass off erroneous genealogy as Truth. But proper research is not the same as contacting people and filling a database with unsubnstantiated facts. Sweepers, sweepe

10. RE: Battle of San Jacinto [1]
Tom, Thank you for posting this. I'm not "shooting the messenger," but this story about Dr. Lemuel Gustine stretches the limits of reasonable credibility. The Dr. Lemuel who was the son of James Gustine & Mary A. Duncan was a widower who was raising a 3 = year-old son in January 1836. He was a medical doctor, not a Private in a Texas militia unit. I haven't found any evidence that he was ever in Texas. The 1850 Census indicates he was born ca.1810, not in 1816. Both of his wives were born ca.1810 a
