4. Re: A proven, useful surname record [Roll Call]. [1]
Hi Ray! Good idea. One of the greatest strengths of the ROOTS-L maillist has been its lasck of fragmentation, IMHO. I too think it would be way more beneficial for the maillists as well as the researchers to try to post to the available lists instead of making over whichever list one happens to be reading. Of course, this maillist is open to chat and discussion of any genealogy-related subject is encouraged. I suppose that would, therefore, include these speciality surname lists. The biggest

Hi Chris! Try this site: http://web.mit.edu/dryfoo/www/Masons/index.html If you don't find what you want, you might try going to http://www.hotbot.com and filling in the blank to search for the word "freemason" as I did. There were a LOT of hits. It looks like many individual lodges have web pages, so you might want to give it a try yourself. Up until sometime in the 1960s, the only treatment for this fatal condition was a total blood tranfusion before too much damage was done to the baby's system. I'm not sure,

Hey, Jeff!!! 11. KEEPING SIBLINGS [0.978004]
It has been my bitter experience to begin my computer gen. research using a program which did not allow for keeping siblings. I now use FTW because it does allow for it. My story is that I got several generations down the line and found that the new ancestor I just found was the sibling of one I had already researched. In many cases I was descended from several children in a family group, and had to go back seven to ten generations and pick up a lot of material. had I kept the siblings, I should have saved

Hi Sally, Yes what you heard is true. I'm an "amateur" photographer & use my scanner (to imput pictures into the computer), which I can then edit or improve upon (using Adobe Photo Shop software), and then print (using HP Desk Jet Printer with a Photo Cartridge). HP makes a special photo quality paper which I print on. I just love doing this & have a great amount of success. You can also buy transfer paper which is used to make iron on transfers. I've made tee shirts many times using this. Also I now

It is common practice in our area of GA and SC to charge for extended obits. Pictures and family info. cost extra. We paid about $50 when my father and father-in-law died. 18. Re: Photo Paper [0.978004]
Hi All, I have tried the HP paper and some other from computer stores and none of it matches the quality of Kodak. (No, I don't work for Kodak). The quality just isn't the same. In addition the Kodak paper is acid free and good for genealogy. Sandy At 03:34 AM 8/6/97 -0700, you wrote: >Hi to all, > >If you have Office Max, Office Depot etc.. Gale, Of which denominational flavor was your ancestor Samuel Johnson?...It was intersting to me that he was "expelled"...Depending on the denomination, such an expulsion could have some rather serious earthly ramifications, as well as spiritual ramifications... First let me tell you that I am no longer a religionist...I spent ten years chasing my doctorate in theology (caught it, too), and I used to preach counsel and teach graduate school (two years teaching a master's level program in seminary)...My st

21. purple spots [0.978004]
I've been reading with interest and nostalgia all the old cures and remedies, but I have to ask........Was I the only one that had to suffer the indignities of being swabbed with gentian violet? It seemed to be the cure-all, in my family, for everything from poison ivy to dog-bite. It didn't hurt, but surely was an attention getter. I still dislike the color purple because of it. Patricia

23. Afterbirth burial... [0.978004]
The question of the disposal of afterbirth has been raised again, and this time I'm not the guilty party...Some have suggested that it is purely a practical matter to bury it when the baby is born at home...I would tend to agree on purely reasonable grounds, except the qualification - when the baby is born at home - is not entirely the issue...And it is not so simple as taking the afterbirth out in some manner, digging a hole, dropping it in, and covering it over... My father knew of a number of instances,

Hi! I think I see the error...the correct address to send commands to the list is: GenChat-L-Request@rootsweb.com Inside the body of your letter should only be the word: unsubscribe This is a computer you will be sending your command.
