Does anyone have access to the following books:
1. History of Goshen by Hibbart
2. Goshen Statistics and Family History by Norton
The Litchfield County web site posted "Litchfield County rev. Soldiers" and
my ancestors, Elisha Mayo and Solomon Morse were listed - Elisha in both
books, Solomon in History by Hibbart. I am not close to any library so could
use some help on this matter. I tried to contact both volunteer look ups on
the Goshen site that has these books, but the mail bounced back so gu
I am trying to find information about a Thomas and Leah (Phillips) DEXTER
and their family. They were not listed on a 1790 Census for Killingly,
CT. But, they had a son born to them in Killingly in 1795.
And, they had a daughter born there in 1799, and another son in 1801.
I have been told that at least one of the three DEXTER families living in
Killingly in 1790 came from Providence County, RI, and were thus descended
from Gregory Dexter. But, I have also been told that some of the Dexter

I am trying to trace the ancestry of Mary Ann NICOLS (other spellings I've
found are NICHOLS and NICHOLAS) She was born 1817 in Groton, CT and died
2/4/1851 New London, CT. She married Jonathan Rogers KING 8/15;/1830. She
is possibly the daughter of Everett NICHOLS who is listed on her death
certificate as being Of Southport, CT.
It is believed Mary Ann NICOLS had a sister, Abby NICOLS b. 1819/1820
Groton, CT d. 1/7/1892 New London, CT who Jonathan Rogers KING married as
his second wife on 6/
For yet further clarification. The Wharehouse Point that is a town is
located in northern CT. The location "Wharehouse Point" is just that - an
area in the New Haven harbor. They are not to be confused. By the way, the
town of Wharehouse Point has a great trolley museum, which is not to be
confused with the trolley museum in Branford, CT. (!) Walter

Hi List,
I am desperate....lol...I spent the day at the State Library in Hartford
today. A really great place!! I found lots of good stuff. Being from Rhode
Island, I can't get out there that much, so I am reaching out here for some
help/guidance.
I am now stopped at CHARLES MORRELL who was born in Fairfield County in 1809.
His first wife was Phebe (?) who died in the 1850's. He had lots of
children including:

William born c. 1837

Have long been trying to find out information about the ancestry of one
Catherine Jane Downing who was married to
a "mariner John Clark" she died in New Haven Dec 1, 1787 in her 42nd
year and was buried there. In 1788 Mr Clark moved his family to Long
Island, taking her gravestone with him. Does anyone know anything about
her or can you suggest someplace to start looking?
TIA, Charlotte Jersey
Thanks to all who answered my query.

Olive,
Litchfield County formed in 1751 was known as the last frontier of CT.
Goshen and Kent were settlements formed with no parent town. Very difficult
for the geneaolgy programs. .

Information from an old Handy Book tells me that Litchfield County was
formed/inc. 1751 from Hartford & Fairfield counties - Goshen formed 1739 and
Kent also 1739. So: if I find, as I have, VRs that tell me that someone was
born in one or the other of these Towns in 1738, [which was found in land
records] what do I put as a location, in an attempt to be as accurate as
possible? If it were early Mass I could put Plymouth Colony but what does
one put for CT?

I am looking for Lebanon church records covering the mid 1700s. The Family
History Center has filmed records for these years from 2 churches: First
Congo & Goshen Congo. My family is in neither.
Were there any other churches, in Lebanon, around 1750, besides these 2?
I have Samuel & Sarah PORTER who first appeared in Lebanon town records in
1749 w/the birth of son William. Subsequent children were Sarah, Eliot,
Molly, Sam Jr (1763). The family sold up & moved to Hartford, VT late 1770s.
