I came across this information in researching my own Hackett line, perhaps it could assist you. Hackett is a very popular surname and is found in Irish, Scottish and English (Anglo-Saxon) culture. The meaning and origin of the Hackett surname is quite different depending on which country and cult

THE IRISH HACKETT NAME CAME TO IRELAND A BIT EARLIER THAN THE REPORTED 13TH CENTURY. HACKETT WARRIORS CAME TO IRELAND SWINGING A BROADAX WITH STRONGBOW ABOUT 1066, FROM NORMANDY. NO NORMANDY WAS NOT APART OF FRANCE UNTIL AFTER THE HACKETTS HAD THE GOOD SENSE TO LEAVE! :)

*According to "The Surnames of Ireland," by Edward MacLysaght, 6th edition:
"Hackett (Haiceid.) Families of this name have been in Ireland since the

Has anyone come across the following names in their research, if so can you

I have a lot of Hackett History dating back to the 1700''s in England, to
their beginning of immigration to the USA in 1855. Do you have any names or
locations for the Hacketts you are looking for. There is also a Hackett family
line PA, but they are Scottish. Look forward to hearing From you. Darlene
It is a Norman name. They settled in Ireland and so most Hacketts come
from Ireland.

The plaque I have states:
"The Hackett name is of Norman origin. Hacket was a personal name and was
brought to Ireland at the end of the twelfth century by Anglo Norman
settlers. Families of the Hackett name settled in Leinster where there are
many placenames bearing their name.".
This is only a portion of the writing on the plaque.

(When the Anglo-Saxons invaded Ireland, they did the same thing to the Gaelic surnames there by making them drop the O' or Mc' prefix from their family names). In Scotland, Hackett is the Anglicized version of the surname Halkett. There are lots of modern pe
