It is a Norman name. They settled in Ireland and so most Hacketts come from Ireland. The plaque I have states: "The Hackett name is of Norman origin. Hacket was a personal name and was brought to Ireland at the end of the twelfth century by Anglo Norman settlers. When the traditional, Scot-Gaelic speaking people of the Scottish Highlands were invaded by the English speaking Anglo-Saxons back in the Dark Ages, they were forced to make their Gaelic surnames into something more Anglican or English sounding.
