I find that going by through death indices I uncover lots of information.
Because you can't search birth records as they are sealed by law chances are
that you'll find names of relatives that died as small children or infants
that you never knew existed. A death record will give you:
1. Name of deceased
2. Date of death
3. Age at death -- and you can back track to birth date
4. Name of both parents; which should include maiden name of the
mother.

I have no great genealogy research success story to share with the mailing
list, but I would like to share an newspaper obituary of my G-G-G
Grandfather, Ziba Hackett which I find unusual.
Ziba was born 17 Feb. 1813 in NJ. He moved to Bureau Co., IL around 1855
where he died 7 Jan 1879.
His obit. reads:
"On the 7th last, Mr. Ziba Hacket an old and respected citizen of our town
was found dead near the Centenary Chapel. He had been visiting some of his
neighbors, and had been seen going towards home only a
As some of you are aware now, I am an avid user of Ancestry Hometown and
when I find something useful to the lists, I let all y'all know. Today
was the first time I had used it this week and in their free database
section, they have a database of WWI civilian draft records. I looked
on it and I found records for all the surname lists I own so here is the
break dow BTW: I checked as many spelling variations when I remembered

Hi Laura,
As I suspect I told you before I have an uncle called John who lived and ran
a provisioning business from Kevin Street in Dublin. He would have come to
Dublin in the 1820s as a young man --probably from Galway. Had a son called
Martin who spent some time in the US. Some of the other names run in the
Hackett with the exception of Owen.

Dear Laura,
Hi, I am new to this list, but was hoping someone could help with my Hackett
problem. My father-in-law knows very little about his family, especially his
maternal line. His mother was Gladys Hackett, and her father was Everett. My
father-in-law remembers that his maternal grandfather spoke with an Irish
accent, but he doesn't know where in Ireland the old man came from. They were
Catholics who settled in east-central Wisconsin. Unfortunately, I can't go to
Wisconsin and dig around in church
Hi,
There is a website for Unclaimed Property listed by state. It is at:
http://www.unclaimed.org
Not all states are listed. Of the states that are listed, not all of them
have a surname listing. I checked a few states: NY, OH, CO, WA and there
were Hacketts listed. Most of the amounts are small but wouldn't it be fun
if someone on the list found some lost money.
The unclaimed property is from forgotten bank accounts, refunds, etc. Good
luck.
Let us know if you find a treasure.

Very little is known about John (Thomas) Hackett, including which was
his first name!! He disappeared somehow after the birth of his son.
Whether he died or told his wife he was leaving forever...we have no
idea.

There was a Judah HACKETT in 1790 in the Rockingham Co, New Hampshire
census. Actually two Judah's. If you look in the census books at a
local FHC (read: Family History Center), they have books for the 1790
census for every state available

Greetings:
I have recently returned from a trip to Michigan where I had a great time
"digging up dead relatives"!.. I have traced my HACKET(T) line back to those
that emigrated to the US from Ireland (County Tipperary) in the mid 1840's.
The family settled in southwestern lower Michigan, in Cass County; primarily
in the Dowagiac area. Most of the first two generations are buried at Sacred
Heart of Mary-Silver Creek cemetery in Cass County. Later generations moved
within the State of Michigan, mostly al
Hello lists:) I wanted to let you all know that I am starting a new
homepage on Rootsweb and I have just gotten it started. So far, there
is nothing new on there that isn't accessible of the angelfire site for
all the lists, but you can go and check it out and give me any feedback.
There is also an explanation for what Kind of info I am wanting to add.
Bye for now:)

Rick How about sharing what you found at that address? Maybe someone
will recognize the people.
I am noticing more and more Tipperary Hacketts on the listserve. I
guess a big problem is going to be how to figure out whether all/most/some
are related to the Norman Hacketts who arrived in the area ca. 1200 and
have an established pedigree OR whether some took the name when people
began using surnames. It could almost be a clan name for the area.
At the very least, it would be helpful for
Hi all,
I like the idea of trying to group the Hacketts by sub clans, or
where they came from. My Hacketts are Irish Catholic, but there were
Hacketts from England, as well. I have a particular problem, as my
Catholic Hacketts were most probably from Northern Ireland. There
seems to be alot of resources for the Ulster Scots, but not as much
for the Catholic families.
Still looking for info, naturalization papers ect., on Joseph Owen
Hackett, born in Ireland about 1840, and came to Lorain in 1860's.
Hello,
I am new to this list and would like to connect with someone researching
Betsey HACKETT b. 1782 in New Hampshire. She married firstly to a MADDISON,
then to Phinehas H. GATES 17 July 1803 in Westmoreland, New Hampshire. She
died 22 August 1863 in Edwards, St. Lawrence Co, New York. Does anyone have
information on Betsey's parents, first husband or siblings? I have a lot of
information on her children on down to exchange. Thank you.
Sue

this is a web site associated with ellis island. it's got a searchable
database of the names of those immigrants that appear on the "wall of honor"
there. a search for hackett yielded 18 names, some including county and
town of origin.
check it out.
This week, there are going to be 2 "words/phrases of the week". I like
the idea of everyone posting their most unusual place they found the
info or any stories, maybe someone has been searching for their family
for years and then suddenly they found it right under their nose....the
one place they didn't even think of! I think this can be a great one,
not only for "entertainment" and reading amusement, but their may be
someone on the list in the same prediciment and get an idea from the
stories. I
