Aloha from Hawaii,
I read with interest your e-mail on the De Guzman album you have. I spoke
with a Lydia Guzman who is a member of our Portuguese Genealogical Society,
about your posting. She was not familiar with the names, and I was unable
to open up your site on AOL.
Is this a Filipino family? I noticed you had a l Alang-Rizal Lodge #502
listed. It sounds like it might be a Filipino family...They use to
celebrate Rizal Day back in the 1940-50's.
Lydia told me there is a Filipino family nea
Aloha kakou. I am looking for anyone who knew Lucille Grace Mata or anyone
who can help me find out who her parents were.
Lucille was my husbands mother, born on Moloka'i in 1926, died in California
in 1976.
We heard that her family was Kahai or Ka'ai or Kahae.
We haven't located birth records.
She left Hawai'i to dance with Harry Owens and the Royal Hawaiians...she
ended up in California.
Her son, David Marquez, and I now live in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a death index there in Hawaii? If so, what dates does it cover?
Is there anyone there in Hawaii who has access to the death index who would be willing to check for a name for me?
I am researching the DeMonte (DoMonte) family. (They changed it from DoMonte to DeMonte). One of the brothers, Manuel Rodrigues DoMonte died in Hawaii in 1912 and is buried in Makiki Cemetery. Manuel's brother, Jacintho (Jesse) R. DeMonte left Hawaii sometime between 1902 and 1907 with his wife and children and went

I recently aquired 2 photo albums that apparently belonged to a woman named
Estella De Guzman. These are chock full of pictures from the 1920's thru
1990. Most (all?) of the pictures were taken in Hawaii. These albums were
found at a yard sale in Phoenix, Arizona.
I am hoping to get these albums back to a member of the De Guzman family. I
have scanned a couple of these photos. You can look at them here:

Thanks to all of you who responded. I want to let all of you know I've found what I needed on the death of Jacintho (Jesse) R. DeMonte
He did die in California. Fortunately I had two people check the older dates on the California Death Index. One of them didn't find anything, only found Jesse's son Jesse Jr. However, the other person who also checked the California Death index from 1905 to 1939 for me found him listed. He died in 1920.
He was listed under Jacintho R DeMonte. One of the people che

I just wanted to let everyone know that the De Guzman family has been found.
The photo albums will be sent to a yet to be determined member of the family,
most likely Estrella's son. Estrella is now in an old folk's home. The bride
in the wedding party picture has been identified as Geraldine De Guzman,
Estrella's daughter-in-law. Estrella's son, the groom, has since passed away.
Apparently, Geraldine still works at the barber shop that Estrella ran.
Thanks to everyone for all of your help and suggest
