I own a copy. Unfortunately only Jastrzebiec and Slepowron Milewskis
are listed as having proved noble status in Galicia, nor are Czaplickis
listed. Ignacy Grazewicz proved noble status in 1785. Jasiewicz lists
a Witold Grazewicz born about 1913, whose father had been a physician in
Belzyc. His mother's maiden name was Ewa Pohoska. He was arested and
shot by the Nazis in Palmiry in 1940.
Dear David Zincavage ,
could you please give me information at first about Bitler and
Podchocim/nski ( I know that these families were noted in German armorials
as well ) , I don't ask everything at once . Thank you very much for
helping .
Your faithfully

You are welcome Ms. Robinson. I have no reason to doubt that you held a
seal from Europe in your hand. Did the image on the seal resemble the
illustration you sent to Mr. Zincavage? If so, then the image did not
originate in Poland. The overwhelming majority of Polish coats of arms
are known and recorded in armorials and other documents. Your
illustration is so unusual, that experts could easily identify it. This
picture was invented by someone who has seen heraldic devices,
Dear Sir/Madam ,
Does anyone have any information about Polish noble families ; Kurol , Bitler , Ozewicz , Ig/chnatowicz h . Godzemba , Zawilejski-Ig/chnatowicz , Podchocim/nski , Zenowicz-Stempazecki, Weryho ? Any information will be appreciated . Thank you in advance .

Dear David Zincavage ,
thanks a lot . Is anything said about Bitler or are they just noted in Kasprzycki and Zernicki ? And do you know what other noble families Podchocim/nskis are related to ?

Dear Listing,
A friend of mine asked how one may obtain proof that a Patent of Nobility
was given to a person by a Russian Czar around the time of WWI.
This document was required to buy and sell land, under Russian rule. What
office might have this information? I do know that, for a time, the Czars
made concessions to the Polish Nobility. This was their way of gaining
their favor.
Anyone know?

A caveat first: As I unfortunately do not speak Polish
and I therefore do not understand the context of the
document properly, my remarks may be inappropriate for
this case.
I remember seeing a contract between two Masovian
noblemen written in 1589 (so about the same time as
this document) with two seals attached to it. Both
seals showed only the shield (no helmet etc.) of the
coat of arms of the parties, but WITH THEIR INITIALS
ON TOP OF THE SHIELD.
I would infer from this example (everyone knows the

Da~browa are very common in Poland, and Da~browski is one of the most

Obviously there are extremely large numbers of homonymous unrelated
Da~browski families from a great variety of regions and location, some
armigerous, some not. Kasprzycki's compendium lists no less than 68

Hello,
I'm back briefly from a ocean cruise. Love the sea air. Then I am off

So has anything been happening since I was away. I looked in the archives
and didn't see much since I left.

Jakub baron de Puget was the resident of Augustus II to the Holy See.
He hailed from Aquitaine.
In 1726 he received an indygenat - naturalization of foreign nobility in
Poland by the Parliament on the recommendation of the Hetmans. The
record of this (noted by Trelinska) is in the Volumina Legum VI, s. 231,
nr. 25. The indygenat was to have included his descendents but this
apparently wasn't completed until 13.I.1767 and there are separate
documents of naturalization for Jan de Puget (son of Jakub) and a r
A month ago I queried about a site I had found 2 yrs ago which had the
portraits of General Antoni Jozef Madalinski and other members of the Sejm.
It seems the site was run by Polish students in Chicago and was gone, but I
found this same information I had been seeking and here it is, not only of
him but the others if you click on BACK under his portrait.
Belated thanks to Sandy and David who had also tried the first attempt and
replied to me.

Thank you, Leon. Your explanation is very acceptable. Pomierki was
situated just upon the border : Poland/Ostpreussen, and after 1795
Westpreussen/Ostpreussen. In 1921-1939 it was near the Polish/Eastprussian
border again.
