1. Re: [HERRING] Henry Herring b. 1795, living in NY [1]
Jim, Finally, I'm getting back around to my Herring family! Have you ever accessed Leonard Herring's will (1856) from St. Lawrence County, NY? Someone posted the probate announcement for me on line, and if you don't have a copy of the will, I am going to go ahead and have someone look it up for me. May be some clues in there. My Herrings are from the Pendleton District, now Anderson County. They were Baptist and lived near Townville. I really think they were all related and that a connection just has not been found. Grimwood said no but then he may have been mistaken. shelia ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Sunday, September 02, 2007 11:43 AM Subject: [HERRING] Herring from South Carolina > Shelia, > > My husbands ancestors are from S.C. in the 1800 also. they a

Herring Highlights book had my Herring connection but did not have my husband's connection even though it was of the same basic family. I understand that Grimwood only compiled the data from various researchers, himself included, but do know of a few mistakes in the book.(just on what little work I have done on the Herrings.) I have a Jacob Herring (said to have the middle name of Peter, but could have been taken from his sons name) born 1797 in SC (by census) married Ann Carson in MS then was in San

Yes, the age is about right, but not the state. I, of course, have no way of knowing if the picture found its way to Indiana from somewhere else. In the 1870 U.S. Federal census, (Benton Co. IA, town of Belle Plaine), there was a Leonora Herring who was one year old. Her parents were August and Christiana (sp?) That would make her about the right age for the picture, wouldn't it? I have Herring ancestry from PA, then IL, and then IA, but I don't recognize any other names in that family. Her father came from Hanover (Germany, I assume). Any opinions on this? I am still looking for more info on John S. Herring (Jack) b. in PA, went to
