Vivian,
This is a real long shot, but since you are researching Hooper's in Oregon, I
am looking for Robert P. Hooper, born 1859, Franklin County, AR. Known as
Pink Hooper, he moved to the Oregon Territory about 1887. I know that he had a
family there, and in the late 1950's, or early 1960's, my grandfather was
contacted by attorney's settling an estate, regarding some property. Robert P.
Hooper (Pink Hooper) was my grandfather's brother. The property title was still
in their father's name, Jose
Just wanted to let everyone know that I have become the list administrator for the Hooper Message Board.
I have now turned on the gateway so that all messages posted on the Board will also be posted on the list.
Please remember that when you see a message you want to respond to that came from the Board, you respond to that message by going to the Board., and not by replying to the list.

Could this be the father of Obadiah? He named his first-born son, James.

The earliest incidence of this is (mainly because I have only got that far
back as of yet) from a chap born in 1668, William ELSTONE, and his son, John
HOOPER, born 1692.
All of William's children did the same thing.........so I have oodles of
names for folks who probably are cousins to John's children and so on down
the generations.

Adele
I am looking for Charles Hooper, born 1890 in Washington state, possibly died in Washington or Oregon, about 1970. Charles Father was possibly Samuel. Charles was married 1908 in Oregon to Grace B. Walker, born 1889 in Missouri. Her father was Zacheriah Wood Walker, Mother was Elizabeth J. Brown. Children of this marriage were: Maurine, Laurene, Daphne, and Dorothy Hooper. Charles's family lived in Egin, LaGrande, Freewater, & Pendleton Oregon. I need help with these families.
Thanks for any help..

Deanna, I am FLOORED by this question.
Why?
Because I am writing an article about this Jerdone ledger and I just
saved the file NOT FIVE MINUTES AGO. The article is a collection of bits
and pieces about the Hanover County Hoopers before 1790, and will appear
in the Hooper Compass Vol 6:1, which I will be mailing next week.
But briefly ... yes, I've long thought this James of early Hanover
really could be the parent of the Obadiah who later lived in Lunenburg.
There is a will in Hanover county in 1732
Anne & Deanna,
Looking at the dates, it seems to me that this James Hooper of early Hanover,
VA, could certainly be the brother of Obediah Hooper (born 1720). Even if
this James was born in 1700, a 20 year difference in age between siblings, in
those days, was not uncommon, as families were so large.
Sure sounds like you ladies are on to something. And, wonderful that Anne
found records proving that this James Hooper had an offspring.

Hi, Dori,
I have no idea if any of these HOOPERs went to USA. It's reasonably safe
to assume that none of my direct line did...............or I wouldn't have
been born in UK ;o)
Have you managed to find the first HOOPER who went to America ?
If so, let me have the details.
Regards,
Adele
I have a wealth of information (although when is too much enough ?) on the
HOOPERs of Somerset; more specifically of Dunster/ Luxborough.
In most of the records I have found the surnames HOOPER and ELSTONE are
seemingly interchangeable. Occasionally there is an ELSTONE HOOPER thrown in
to create complete and utter confusion.
The same parents have registered one child as HOOPER a subsequent one as
ELSTONE and so on. There are notes in the church registers " So and So

My HOOPERS went to Canada in approximately 1880 from Devon. They settled on
the south shore of the St.Lawrence river across from Montreal.
They were William Henry Venning HOOPER, his wife ELIZA DOCKETT, and their 5
children Alice, Charles, Ethel, Bruce, and Reginald. They had 6 more
children in Canada
