I have a JOEL DE PEERE or DE LES PIERRE married to ANNE SIX, 1594 at Canterbury, Kent. I have that they have five children. Anne was married twice first husband Nicholas de Chasteau. Her father was THOMAS SIX, her mother ? Le CANDLE. Any one out there that is researching this line? I would appreciate any help. Phyl
2. Re: [HWE] PHILIPPE [1]
Lesley Phillipe wrote :- >The family story seems to be that the PHILIPPE family > members did the cross channel trip, later returning > to Europe (where?)only to be forced to leave > again. Is this a Huguenot name ? An interesting story as I am sure that it "fits" with so many of our Huguenot ancestors. Some questions that I would suggest that Lesley try and discover the answers to would be :- When did this channel crossing occur ? If between say 1635 and 1650 it is possible that your ancest
3. [HWE] Citizens [1]
I had heard at one time that it might be possible for persons of Huguenot descent to claim French citizenship even today as descendants of those persons. Has anyone any knowledge of this? Chris

5. [HWE] Bristol Huguenots - COLLIN [1]
I have been told that there is a possible Huguenot connection in my ancestry. I suspect this may be through my Bristol ancestors, who were mainly cordwainers or shoemakers. I have been tracing the Parfrey line and reached an Elizabeth Collin, born about 1803 in Bridgwater, Somerset. I wonder if the name Collin may be of French origin. I am totally stuck with the Huguenot connecion and would be grateful for any information about Huguenot families in Bristol and Somerset. Jane Macintyre

7. Re: [HWE] watch out [1]
I've heard of some people's trees supposedly going back to Adam and Eve. I don't recall hearing or reading that Noah took such records aboard the Ark. But what do I know? 8. [HWE] Fw: Nicholas Sallada (1731)---Huguenot??? [1]
I have recently learned that Nicholas Sallada, born 1731/32 in Palatinate, Germany is my ancestor. He is listed as arriving in the United States in 1752. A source for that date also listed the book, "General List of Huguenot Immigrants to Pennsylvania", by Ammon Stapleton as a source. Was Nicholas a Huguenot? Does anyone on the list have the book or used it? Is anyone else on the list a Sallada(e) Carolyn in Washington State

12. [HWE] RE: SODO/SODEAU [1]
Hi Emilie, One French Huguenot of some note was Rev Samuel PRIOLEAU (1615 - 1683). He was Pastor at Jonzac in 1637, Niort in 1642, and followed JeanConstans as Pastor at Pons, France, from 1654 to 1683. In 1660, he was for a brief time Pastor at La Rochelle. He son, Rev Elias PRIOLEAU (1659 - 1699) studied theology at Geneva and was Pastor at La Mothe - SaintHeraye after 1678. In 1683, he followed his father as minister at Pons. On April 15, 1686, his church was battered by a mob and burned to the ground.
13. [HWE] PONTHIEU [1]
Now I am not sure if I pressed 'Send' or delete ? On the chance that it was the latter... can anyone tell me if any of the PONTHIEU family took up the Huguenot cause ? Kind Regards, Peter Leroy
14. Fw: [HWE] PHILIPPE [1]
We have a Pastor Phillipi here in Queensland Australia. He was Minister of the Lutheran Church here in Maryborough and now retired and lives at the seaside near here. 15. [HWE] Jean a LASCO [1]
Hello fellow listers, Reading is fun. Off I went in search of truth, justice and the .. oh my.. no no I have not found Superman in the local phone booth. I did discover Jean a LASCO. Well that is my point. I now know who he was but know little else about this man. Apparently a Polish man of the Protestant belief. Who happened to live in London, England around the time that Edward VI was putting quil to parchment on July 24, 1550. This document gave a charter to allow the setting up of a church. Not ju
16. Re: [HWE] Re: LEFORT [1]
Dear Tony, Many thanks for this information. I seem to have reached a brick wall with my William John LEFORT who was born in 1805 in Christchurch Southwark, as these registers are only available from the London Metropolitan Archives which are very expensive to search. .However, one day I hope to surmount this obstacle and continue to try to link my family back to some of the people you mention!! Thankyou again for your interest. Regards, Jeanette. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Fuller"
17. [HWE] Reference conversions [1]
My ancestors were Catholics in France before the early 1600's. I suspect they were simply raised in that religion and never thought much about it, then they were caught up in the fervor of the Reformation and, once they became Protestants, they were fiercely loyal to and actively involved in their new found faith. Persecution does that. When they fled to England, the next generation began to intermarry with Anglicans and other faiths. The younger generation did not have the fervor of their parents, and ma
18. [HWE] Pronunciation [1]
I have a favor to ask of you French speaking folks... My records take me back to Tourcoing, Nord, France ( about 1550). Before some "respellings", the name was then spelled Feret. I have assumed it was pronounced FAIR-RAY'. What is the verdict? Thank you. Good Hunting. Bob Robert H. Ferree P.O. Box 116 Grizzly Flats, CA 95636 USA
19. [HWE] Book by John Peters [1]
I wanted to thank everyone that gave me the great lead on the De Les Pierre name. I found the book that so many of you referred to "A Family from Flanders." I also found an index to the book. The book will take about a month to get to me, but the wait will be well worth it. Just looking at the surnames mentioned in the index, It looks like we have several of the same surnames. I expect it shows but I am kind of new to genealogy. I really appreciate the help you have given to me. Thank you. Ph
20. [HWE] François VIETE [1]
Hello All, Now this fellow is of interest to my family but not likely to be of any interest to anyone else. Then of course we do have subscribers from all walks of life, and so if you happen to be one of those interested in mathematics, then you will probably know why Frank is kind of famous. Frangois Vihte was 1540 in Fontenay-le-Comte, Poitou and died at the age of 63 on 13 Dec 1603 in Paris. To really cut the story short. Frank was good at sums. Really good. To this day we have some in our family w
21. [HWE] Pronunciation [1]
Hello all, I asked for opinions as to the pronunciation of the French (or Flemish) surname name Feret. The consensus suggested "Feh-ray or Fer-a " depending on the emphasis one places on the first syllable (Fer). Is it a soft "eh" sound or a harsher "trilled r" sound? In either case, the second syllabi is a long a. Many thanks to Luc, Bob Hairsine, Leslie Nicholass, Robert Hiller, Peter Leroy, Jan Zwarick and Caroln. My ancestors may now rest in peace. Good Hunting. Bob Robert H. Ferree P.O. Box 116 G
22. Re: [HWE] watch out [1]
Phyl - My aside about "Family Coats of Arms" was supposed to be a wry comment, for strictly speaking, (at least in the U.K.), there is no such thing. Coats of Arms are issued by the Royal College of Arms or the Lyon King-at-Arms to individuals and not families, one does not officially pass down the generations. Whether or not this is true of the various Continental European countries in which a Huguenot or Walloon may have picked one up I do not know. Your experience reminds me of one I had in China many
23. [HWE] Re: HUGUENOTS-WALLOONS-EUROPE-D Digest V03 #103 [1]
Tony Fuller Your recent posting regarding the price of the disc came through as GB=A320 (and GB=A318) What does this mean? British Pounds in the amount of 320 or almost $500 US. Seems high. Does the "A" stand for the symbol for British Pounds? And is the amount really three hundred twenty pounds? Charles Geoffroy
24. Re: [HWE] ANN GIELIS [1]
The LDS might be able to assist. They list a Jean Antoine L'HERMITE (Died 1661), Whose father was DENIS LHERMITE and mother MARIA VANDER-STRATEN. There are also several other Ann's who appear to again come from Belgium but married other people. There is also a reference to Abbeville. As this community of France is not all that far from Belgium, perhaps that is yet another starting point ? Kind Regards, Peter Leroy
25. [HWE] BONTOFT [1]
I have the family name of BONTOFT I would like to know if any one out there thinks this might be a Huguenot name. The Bontofts seem to have lived in Lincolnshire. Thanks. Phyl
