Joyce, Here is something someone sent on the Slovakia mailing list. Hope this helps. Penny 1869 Magyar (Hungarian) Census Several Magyar (Hungarian) Census were conducted by the Kingdom of Hungary, Austria-Hungary Empire. The most complete census was performed in 1869 census. Each village is enumerated, organized by house number. Each house is described by the number of rooms, doors, windows, floors, barns and other outbuildings. I thought I sent this to the list but it never showed up in my mail box so I'll try again. 6. [HUNGARY-L] Ellis Island Records--ACS Teszer [1]
Can any one tell me where "ACS Teszer" is? My E/I Passenger Record has my g'father coming from there and that he was "Hungary German" in ethnicity. Joe Felt Heredity ======= I saw a duck the other day. It had the feet of my Aunt Faye. Then it walked, was heading South. It waddled like my Uncle Ralph. And when it turned, I must propose, Its bill was formed like Aunt Jane's nose. I thought, "Oh, no! It's just my luck, Someday I'll look just like a duck!" I sobbed to Mom about my fears, And sh
7. [HUNGARY-L] Ellis Island Trick [1]
Someone mentioned "refreshing." Must be Internet Explorerese for what we Netscapians call "Reload." In any event, continuous "reloading or refreshing," as the case may be, a page as soon as you are "kicked off" will eventually return you to the page you were on. Also, has anyone tried to print out all the matches? You cannot read the "names of passengers" if you print it out in black and white. Maybe color would work. I intend to complain about that since they are the most important pieces of informat

I too remember Solona. I just saw some at he meat market this past weekend. We too ate it at Bar B Qs the same way you did. I will get some for my father and brother this summer. I want to thank you, Laurie, for your post earlier today. Because of it, I went back to the Ellis Island site and found the handwritten manifest for the ship that grandfather Sandor Hegedus was on. Although I printed out the passenger list & picture of the ship several days ago, I didn't realize I could view & print the actual manifest...how exciting! With the added information it gives, I know now for certain that it's the right Sandor Hegedus (even though the age is listed wrong). Thanks again for bri

Dear Lydia and List: I too have had problems with Hungarian characters on the web site for the Hungarian phone book at Matav.hu. When they changed formats the previous time I asked them to reinstate an input page that us "simpletons" could use without characters. Basically, they required various accent marks that could be input. This was a lot easier than trying to input the characters. I have emailed them a request recently to reinstate this page for "non-Hungarians" but the request was in Engl

14. [HUNGARY-L] Name Translation [0.982221]
List, I found the following name on a passenger list of the SS Rhein-1903-Bremen, Zsuzsa Balog. How could this first name have been Americanized? That is the surname I am researching, but don't know if that is a boy or a girl, it gave the age as 16, so I am thinking it is a boy, but my mother always warned me about assuming anything. I also saw the name of Andras Balocz on the same list, is there a possibility that could be Balog? He also was 16 years of age, but was many pages apart from the other nam
