Hi group, I just wanted to circulate more info on my SIMONS line. I am thinking, but not sure, that this line may have been Huguenot. Any thoughts or advice is most appreciated, as I am new to Huguenot research. I'll soon be posting my DESHAZO line, which is a Huguenot line. The info is below my signature. 5. information [0.984261]
I am looking for any information on Jasper P Pillow who was born somwhere in England in 1710. He came to the United Stares in 1740. I have gotten this much info. What I would like to trace are Jasper's mother and father . If anyone has information on the parents I would surely appreciate it. One of the Pillow spellings in French is Pilleau and Pilon. Pilleau is a registered (I believe) Huguenot name.. from an Alexis Pilleau also registered is the Pillow name. Thank You Paul Pillow plpil@qwest.net

7. Fw: Huguenots of Colonial South Carolina [0.984261]
I'll get copies made of the Purry story (send me your mailing address) but in the meantime: >From # 180 "In 1732 the town of Purrysburg was laid out. It contained 400 acres on the Savannah River. Besides, 300 acres were set aside for a church and cemetery and 100 acres for a common and a glebe. In a company of 260 that came in 1734, 40 were persecuted and poverty stricken refugees who had temporarily settled in the Piedmont. A collection was taken for them in England, which netted them enough for the p

Josie. According to # 180: Purrysburg ". . . Among the refugees of this group who went to South Carolina, during the early years of its history were, for example, the families of Laurens, De la Bastie, Gautier (Cottier) (footnote), May, Leher, Jean Francois Gignilliat, Pierre Robert, Honore Michaud, Jean Pierre Pele, etc., but much larger numbers went under the alluring and oft repeated solicitation of Jean Peter Purry . . ." footnote: Cottier (also written Gautier) came from a respected peasant family. Hi Tom, >From #180 (may not be on the bibliography list for a few days - that's the URL below my name) page 41 "Jacob Anger, one of the Frenchmen of Hillsboro, in 1765 petitioned the Council for a bounty Sufficient to enable him to return to Great Britain and France with the purpose of trying to induce many of his relatives to emigrate to South Carolina. 11. FEUGARDE/FUGARD [0.984261]
My grandfather was born in 1870 as William John Fugard, but changed the family name when he came to the U.S. in 1890. My mother always told me he was a descendent of French Huguenots and that he spoke French. He was born in Bessbrook, Co. Armagh and his father was John Fugard & grandfather Roert Fugard. The only Fugard names I have heard of in France came from Normandy. The name means fire guard in French & is not common at all. One woman with the spelling FEUGARD was buried in British Columbia, Canada, bu
12. Re: Huguenots of Colonial South Carolina [0.984261]
Jacqueline, Do you know the whole story about Jean Peter Purry and the two groups of Huguenots that he somewhat conned into coming to Carolina? Your family was part of the second group (the first didn't even leave port). If you don't have a record of it I will type and e-mail it to you. Its absolutely fascinating (albeit long). 21. Murphy's Law for Genealogy [0.984261]
The records you need for your family were in the courthouse that burned. When at last you have solved the mystery of the skeleton in the closet the tight-lipped spinster aunt will claim" I could have told you that all the time". Your grandmother's maiden name for which you've searched for years was on an old letter in a box in the attic all the time. The family story your grandmother wrote for the family never got past the typist. She packed it away "somewhere" and promised to send a copy, but never did

24. DeShazo, Simons; others' surnames? [0.984261]
Hi all, I am new to this list and thought I'd say hello. I have one, possibly two, Huguenot lines: DESHAZO (DECHAZEAUX) (late 1600s or early 1700s France>VA>SC>GA>AL>MS>TN) SIMONS (1700s VA>SC>AL>MS>TN) Is anyone researching these lines, or has anyone run across anything about them? Also, since I'm new, can we do a roll call of Huguenot surnames/dates/states people on the list are researching? Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you all, Lori Researching Simons, Simms/Sims, DeShazo, Neel, Pierce

Well, Friends, I know all of us have been otherwise preoccupied with the terrible events of this past month, but it has been several weeks since I posted the two parts of the dates I compiled in an attempt to get the several Noah Serres straightened out. I am yet to see a message from anyone who has good evidence to dispute my conclusion that there were ONLY 3 levels of that name. This, in conflict to several articles/ references to the contrary, which have been kindly sent to me. I find these that I have r
