Dear List Members,
It is that time of year when some of you will be leaving on Vacations.
You might want to consider unsubscribing from the list while you are
gone and then resubscribing when you return.
The easiest way to do this is by using Password Central.
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you
will receive a e-mail list of all Rootsweb Mailing Lists you belong to.
You can unsubscribe using this e-mail. Save it and you then have a list

Dear List Members,
If you were effected by the Comcast buy out, then you need to read this,
if not delete it.
Just this evening, I have receive over 100 requests for me to change
e-mail address to a Comcast address. Many of these requests mention
multiple lists of which the sender needs their e-mail address
changed. It will take me a good week or so to get through them all.
My suggestion is;
If you still have the ability to unsubscribe go to PASSWORD Central at

I'm looking for information about Cricket.a coal mining camp in the early 1900s. My mother Flora Chiri was born there.

Can't find anything on Cricket but in 1915 the Chiri family is in Bluff

Ia state census records can be hard to deal with. They are on separate index
cards. While the rest of the family was indexed as Chiri, 7 y/o Flora was

in Lucas co.1920 indexed as CHERRY[CHEONG] and 1925 as Chiri. Dick

Dear List,
I believe all RootsWeb users need to be aware of this.
The RootsWeb Help Desk
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/
has posted a notice that e-mails are being circulated with a fake

If you should receive something of this nature, *DO NOT* click on the

Although the list is very quiet, I thought I'd

Dear List Members,
I just ran across an interesting Website, "Courthouse Experiences"
http://www.bcpl.net/~dmg/courthouse.htm Not every county is listed, but
the ones listed gave helpful information regarding the attitudes of
those working in the courthouses.
I might suggest that if you have had a positive or negative courthouse
experience you add them to this site.
I now know how to prepare myself for several courthouses I want to visit
later this year.

Hi all, I subscribe because I thought this might be an interesting site. I
didn't know how many ghosttowns there are in Iowa, but was interested in
finding out.

Hello listers,
I recently took over as list mom and thought I'd introduce myself. In
addition to the Iowa Ghost towns list, I admin about 20 other "quiet" lists
as well as several message boards. I have to admit, I don't live in Iowa
and I don't have any special knowledge regarding IA ghost towns, just a
keen interest in ghost towns in general.
This list currently has over 30 subscribers so why don't we all introduce
ourselves?

The Iowa ghosttown I am most interested in is Nordland, which was in Worth
Co. during the late 1800s. Any info or stories would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,

There is a short list of user contributed ghost towns in Iowa on this site:

Click on "Click on map to select state", then on the state of Iowa. When
the map of Iowa is loaded scroll down below it to see the list of Iowa

Sometimes the map reference (what part of the state the town was in) is

There are many states still available for adoption. If you are
interested, contact Doris Robbins demwr@netzero.net
If the state you are interested in is already adopted, consider
volunteering for a county within that state, to do that contact the Web

Hello everyone.
I just received notice from RootsWeb concerning updates that will
start next week. As some of you may know, they have been advertising
updates to the Message Boards all summer. In addition, the Mailing
Lists will be moved to a new management system.
What does that mean to list subscribers? For the most part, very
little. The main points are:
1. Your current subscription(s) will automatically transfer to the
new system so there will be no need to
re-subscribe to your list(s).
2.
Will the default return mail un-sub me?
