1. [IaAdair] PERU, IOWA ?? [1]
I recently received material that stated a descendant of mine moved from VA to Peru, IA in the early 1800s. Am wondering if there is or ever was a Peru, Iowa? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but I'm inclined to think it is a typo in the material. Thought I'd ask some of you native Iowans to help me out. Thanks, Dixie (Jennings) Greenwood

There have been 2 post offices with the name of Peru in Iowa. The first was in Dubuque County and was in existence from 1833 to 1842. The second as already noted is in Madison County and still is in operation today. The Madison County Peru was established as a post office in 1853.
