There are two different families in the Waukon and surrounding area who
use the surname of 'HAAS.'
One group is from Germany and a few of the others are Norwegian

You should be able to figure out which by the first names.

Hi,
My name is Jan and I live in Central Indiana. Living in Indiana is no
connection with the Bells. I didn't move here until 1963.
My brick wall is the parents of my great grandfather, William O. Bell tracked

He was born October 17, 1856. Can't find him on the 1856 census. Since I
don't know who his siblings were, I can't make a connection. He died in

I don't have any idea what first names are Norwegian, or which were German. Maybe you have a list to share? I see that Catherine is a German name, what others do you think are? Catherine is listed in an online database for cemeteries as Catherine Haas Howes. Her ggrandaughter, age 88, does not remember seeing an "s" after their name, and has been to the plot many times.
