I've just recently returned from a research trip to Dallas County. I came back with tons of data. The people of the county are some of the friendliest around. A 90 year old lady from Waukee invited me into her home to talk about some of the people I was researching that she had known. Another man said "follow me", and took me to a hard-to-find cemetery in Sugar Grove Township. A trustee of the Greenwood Cemetery showed me a map of the cemetery drawn up in 1966 that showed some stones of my ancestors th

Can anyone tell me when Woodward Hospital opened? Was it in existance in
1880-1890? If so, were the residents listed in the state and federal
censuses? How would one go about finding patient records? I am needing to
locate Joseph Current during that time period. Sometime after his father's
deaht in 1890 he was transferred to Hamilton Asylum in Ontario, Canada, and
died there in 1895. It is very important for my family research to verify
what state hospital he was in, in Iowa. He was born in Clin

Welcome Elaine.
I'm researching a SMITH family of Dallas Center. Alonzo and Elizabeth (McDonald) SMITH were in the censuses there from 1880 to 1910. They had children: Mark, Susan, Francis, and Emma. I have not found where and when Alonzo and Elizabeth died or if they are buried in Dallas County. Alonzo was a Civil War veteran and was for a time Justice of the Peace in Dallas County. Other than the names of the children, I don't know about their descendants, either. Always interested in any informati

The Dallas Co. Recorder will not provide anything but certified records
through the mail--I think they're $10, but I may be wrong. If you can get
there yourself you can get a cheaper, uncertified copy. When I wrote, a
couple of years ago, they also sent me the name, address and number of a
local genealogist (Dallas Center) who will do uncertified copies--I don't
know how much she charges, as I never contacted her.

I am researching several families in Des Moines Twp.: PLATT, SMALLEY, MILLER,
SNIDER, PURDY. I have census information on them but would like to hear from
anyone who is related or has additional data.
Is there anyone in Des Moines who goes to the courthouse occasionally and
would be willing to look up something for me?
Also, I have a copy of "Through the Years, Woodward, Iowa, Centennial

Just in case and if anyone cares - I now know why. My server had "minor"
problems on Saturday and it scrambled some messages, erased others, and
caused general havoc. After reaching the Help Desk today, the problems
seem to be resolved. At least I learned something - instead of freaking
out, wait till you can reach your Help Desk. Ah, we live and learn.
