6. RE: [Dub'que] Eagle Point Ave [1]
Eagle Point WAS the name of a street, Nancy. I know it was renamed but I don't know to what. I have run across Eagle Point Avenue again and again in the census data and city directories. It states that Sacred Heart Church is on it. I grew up one street over from Xavier Hospital and went to Sacred Heart, got married there, but I can't remember the name of the street that SH faces. (The priest house was facing Windsor). Somebody wrote that they thought it was changed to Kaufmann Ave, but I don't think tha

8. Re: [Dub'que] Immigration information [1]
Depending on how much you know about citizenskip, this may be review for you, but I believe I was told that it meant the person had filed his Declaration of Intent, or filed his "PApers". This was the first step to becoming a citizen, after which there was a waiting period, which varied from 2-5 years, at different periods.

11. [Dub'que] Eagle Point Ave. [1]
I have many Dubuque History books ... and one, Dubuque on the Mississippi written by William Wilkie states (and I quote) " Eagle Point Ave ... is now Kaufmann Ave." IF you go down KAUFMANN Ave heading east it turns into East 22 Street and you will Be Right in front of SACRED HEART CHURCH. I also have an 1867 Dubuque City Directory it references Couler ave is between Eagle Point Ave and Diagonal ... if you are familiar with Dubuque you will know Diagonal St is very near KAUFMANN Ave. and

14. Re: [Dub'que] Immigration information [1]
Well, Dick has the correct explanation for the "PA", rather than me, but the papers I have from my ancestors show that the first document, (the Declaration) was the one which only showed their name and that they renounced their King. I have this one from my g gf, filed in Wisc.in 1898, but he never got around to filing the Naturalization, as his brothers did. The documents I have from his brothers definitely show the earlier document (1888) entitlled Declaration, and the Petition for Naturalizatioon

19. [Dub'que] LEIHLEIN / OEHLER in 1850 mortality index? [1]
Hi! Does anyone have anything like this name in your lines? It was indexed as LEIHLEIN, but I'm thinking that it might really be my great-great-grandmother, Eve or Eva OEHLER. I've looked at the film and there is a lot of room for confusion. My Eva OEHLER did indeed die in May, 1850, of childbirth, around the age of 30. Thanks in advance-- Ellen Blackstone (Not researching Blackstone.) Other family names: BANKSON, BANKSTON, SMITH, DYKE, GRAHAM, STEWART ---------------------------------------------------

Michele, I have Jacob HENKEL in my database. You can read everything I have in my "Lang Family History" at my website (in my signature). Just do a "Find" for HENKEL. Thanks for the maiden name of Jacob's mother. I did not have that. Perhaps you can fill in some other blanks for me -- Where in Germany was Jacob born? When exactly did he immigrate? Where did he live before moving to Dubuque? Also, I am still trying to learn the hometowns in Germany for Mathilda LANG's LANG ancestors. Dan Daniel J.
23. Re: [Dub'que] Immigration information [1]
Ruth, You will see these initials on various census' regarding immigration status. Al, (alien) Pa. (petition applied [for]) and Na, (naturalized) The naturalization was a 2 step process. After a person had been here for a certain period of time, he would file his Pa. This is the one you want to obtain for it MAY contain his port of entry, date, and perhaps a residence in his birth country. Remember, I said MAY. Then, after a period of about 2 years, he could file his final, or naturalization papers Which us
