1. Merritt Smith, Fayette co., IA, 1860 census [1]
Hi Everyone, I'm researching a Merritt Smith who lived in Fairfield Twp., Fayette Co., IA, in the 1860 census (age 30 yrs.). His family included a wife Francis Smith (spelled with an "i" in the census; age 23, b. OH) and 2 sons Charles L. Smith (age 5, b. MI) and E*** Smith (age 3, b. IA). Merritt Smith enlisted in the Union Army 22 Sept. 1862 as a Corporal and was mustered out 17 Oct. 1865 at Sioux city, IA. My research problem is where is Merritt Smith & family after 1865? If Merritt was must

6. subject 1880 census lookup for Merritt Smith [1]
Hi Everyone, I would like to thank the mailing list for its help in researching my Smith line. I received some great advise that is really starting to pay off. If I may impose one more time. Does anyone have a copy of the 1880 IA census that could please check to see if Merrit(t) Smith, b. 1830 in VT, and/or his wife Francis Smith, b.ca. 1837/8 in OH are listed? The family probably is in Fayette or Clayton Co. but Merritts father, Ephraim Doane Smith, died in Polk Co., so this is another possibl
