Hello,
I am searching for information on my Great-Great grandfather, Philip
Adkins. I have traced him back to the1880 census (with Jane and her 1 year
old daughter Maude along with several children born to him by Josie
Thornburg) in Greene Co.,Iowa. I wonder if he is listed as having fought in
the Civil War? How would I find out? He may be listed as Phill Adkins.
It states in the 1900 census for Ok. that he had my Great Grandmother, Emm
a Jane Adkin, age 11 - born in 1889- and her sister
Re: the question of Civil War service of Philip ADKINS - that would be
highly unlikely since he is on the 1860 census in Greene County, age 28,
with 4 children ages 4-9. The "Past and Present of Greene County, Iowa"
pub. 1907 lists only:
William L. ADKINS, private; wound at Champion Hills MI, May 16, 1863,
re-enlisted Feb. 1, 1864. Returned to his home in Washington Twp., where
he died many years ago.
