1. Re: Township Sections [1]
Hello Vicki, Section numbers are based on the Federal Township and Range system. More information is available at http://www.outfitters.com/genealogy/land/land.html As you pointed out, Civil Township boundaries and the Township/Range boundaries of the Township and Range system do not always match, probably due to different points in time they were each created. I do not know the exact historical explanation. There's a little bit more information at the Harrison County Township Map page to reflect some of

3. LEWIS Burials in Preparation Cemetery [1]
Someone sent a query about the surname LEWIS in Harrison County but I can't find the email to respond to them. Yesterday I was at Preparation Cemetery and found these Lewis graves. All of these graves are at the front of the cemetery & can be seen from the gate on the left side. There were Lewis families in Harrison County with RR Moorhead addresses in the 1905 HC Directory. I am sending this info to the Harrison County List in hopes the person who inquired will find this response. Vicki King
4. America's First Families [1]
I was browsing through a webpage called "America's First Families" that is about families that settled in the 1600's in America. I saw many, many surnames that I have seen while doing Harrison County research. Does anyone know if our Harrison County families are related to any of the families listed on this webpage? So far I have found 3 of my surnames on the webpage and I know the lineage back to the person named. There is also an interesting section on fraudulent genealogical lines. Thought I

9. Surnames Found in Preparation Cemetery [1]
Here are the some of the surnames that I saw on tombstones in Preparation Cemetery, Monona County, IA. Preparation Cemetery is between Pisgah & Moorhead, south of the Preparation Canyon Recreation Area. Many of these surnames have ties to Harrison County and the LDS Church. There are other names but this list is all I can remember from my visit. I got off Interstate 29 at Little Sioux & took one of the Loess Hills Loops over to Pisgah. This route was absolutely beautiful! I have no other infor

12. Township Sections [1]
Who knows how the sections in the different townships were numbered? What method was used? I have the 1884 Atlas & have been working on Jefferson Township when I noticed that Jefferson has 2 sets of the following section numbers: 13, 14, 23, 24, 25, 26, 35 & 36. One set is on the east of the twp & the other on the west. When I check Calhoun twp to the west I see that Calhoun splits sections 14, 23, 26 & 35 with Jefferson. Calhoun twp doesn't even have a full set of numbers it has sections 14-
