Hi: Janer Lager:
I am one of those people on the list with roots in Harrison Co., IA. My father
was born there in Dunlap, 1877, just before a migration to Oregon so I need vital
records for my family. After I return to Illinois around Easter to Illinois, I
shall be in touch to pursue my research on Rev. Hiram C. Moore, an organizer and
first lay minister of the Methodist Episcopla Church, Woodbine, IA. This involves
MOORE, MENDENHALL (& Coffin), GREENE and other surnames. I have been in touch

You mentioned you have the book, "Bicentennial History of Little

In the 1884 Harrison County Atlas there is an A Martin who owns 40 acres. It
looks like his land is in Section 3 on the map. Does any one know who this "A
Martin" was or anything about this person?
My greatgreatgrandmother Sarah Elizabeth Martin Fountain Morris moved to
Harris Grove in 1879/80 with her second husband, her son and many of his sons
and daughters families. They settled in Union Township. We have always heard
that they moved to this location because she had a brother living there but

Hi everyone,
This is Janette Lager from Missouri Valley, Harrison County, Iowa. By the way
DMLJLL426@aol.com is me - I need to delete that email address from the mailing

genealogy. I use HCGS51579 for general Harrison County Genealogy (non-

email me at this address. Thanks
If you don't mind, I would like to send you information about the society from

The Harrison County Genealogical Society has published cemetery records for
all cemeteries in the county. The booklets are available and are listed at
the society web page http://www.rootsweb.com/~iaharris/hcgs.htm
I am happy to do lookups but it may be helpful to have a personal copy of a
cemetery. These cemetery booklets will tell you what information was found
inscribed on each stone. There is a basic map and documentation of when the
land was first recorded as a cemetery. It has each stone in sectio
Does anyone have the cemetery books for St. John's Township? I am trying to
find out where Adeline Martin is buried. After her mother died in 1918 she
was raised by a family names Sales who lived in Missouri Valley, IA. We don't
think she was adopted but might be buried under the name Adeline Sales.
Adeline was born in 1914 and died young by accidentally ingesting lye.
Adeline was my Great Aunt Ruby's little sister. A niece of Ruby's found me
and said she had tried to get a death certificate for Adeline
My name is Janette Lager and I am the President of the Harrison County
Genealogical Society. I do lookups of any records I have in my home. As a
resident of Harrison County and member of the local society I also have access
to many other records at our society library, county courthouse and other
local libraries. I was told recently by the volunteer for the Harrison County
Web Site, Dennis Walsh that there are 56 people on this mailing list.
To request lookups and see who all has volunteered for lookups
Hello to Janette and the other 55 subscribers on this list! It's very unusual
to have such a close link between the email list and the local society -
that's a real advantage for both groups.
My name is Diane Hettrick. I live just north of Seattle, Washington state. I
am the descendant of D.M. HARRIS, who was the founder of the "Missouri Valley
Times." As a family, we are quite impressed by this; however, I've never been
able to get the modern Missouri Valley Times to be as impressed! :-)

Diane Hettrick recently posted on the list wanting information on the parents
of her ancestor. They are listed in the biography for the Honorable D.M.
Harris in the 1891 History of Harrison County page 451-453 and I will send her
information directly.
Great sources of parents names (not always 100%) are:
-Marriage record - (marriage license return section) 1880 or after
-1925 Iowa State Census - give parents names, their birthplace and place of
marriage
-Death Record 1880 or after
-County History biograp

Harrison County has an Obituary page on GenConnect that is linked to the
Harrison County USGenWeb page. Very few obits have been posted on it so I
thought maybe everyone was unaware it was available. Only OBITUARIES can be
posted to this page - NO QUERIES. Please visit the Obituary page and add
Obits for your ancestors. If you have a query on one of the Obits please post
it to the Harrison County Query page or post the query on the IAHARRISON-
L@rootsweb or email the researcher directly or post it all 3
I shall send this out in plain text as the owner of the list says that
it will not go out otherwise.

Hi Everybody,
This is my first time doing this so I apologize if I am doing anything wrong.
I am wondering if someone can do a lookup for me in regard to a Gabriel Pence
who came to Lincoln township in 1856 with his wife and 7 children. I have no
idea what the wife's or kids names were. If someone could help me on this I
would appreciate.
Thank you,
Tammy in sunny California
Paulette,

I have no idea how many people are on this list or what kind of resources
are available.... if you are able to do any kind of lookup would you please
post your resource?
I am looking for the family of my great grandfather, John Parks, born
Aug.29,1869 - Harrison County, Iowa (at least that is the date I've been
given, but I haven't found him on anything from Harrison County yet!)
