Howe accomplished a good work at Danville. One meeting there lately resulted in 27 new additions to the temperance pledge. -N.S. Morris, our berry man has left town. Over 50 pages of Washington County, Iowa DAR Cemetery Records that I had in my possession have been scanned and loaded today. These are scanned copies of originals that were not good enough quality to scan as editable text but most should be quite readable but not as pretty as the marriage records. I found more than I thought I had in the beginning. Many burials from A-C; E-F; G, H, & L, S & T are included but there are no D, M, N, O, Q, U, V, W, X, Y, Z files since I have no surnames I researched in that

The Free Press Mount Pleasant, Henry, Iowa July 17, 1879 Swedesburg. The month of roses and rain have passed, also the Fourth of July. The fireworks, the cannons, the eloquence and the disappointments are things of the past. Farmers have settled down to heavy work in the harvest field. The rye and hay crops are abundant, wheat and oats promise well and the corn is fast aspiring heavenward. After so many years of poor crops how exhilarating to ride over the country and see such an abundance.

The Free Press Mount Pleasant, Henry, Iowa July 17, 1879 Fatal Accident. Death of Joseph Jeffries. Joseph Jeffries on Saturday afternoon was helping get hay on his farm a short distance east of town. They had just taken in one load and returned for another. Mr. Jeffries was standing on the hay rack near the rear end of the wagon. I am researching an Alfred Fairchild who was in the 1880 Round Prairie Twp., Jefferson Co., Iowa census. He was age 31 born 1849 Iowa. He was listed with his wife, Martha M. (last name was Butler) age 30 born 1850 Illinois and children, James age 10 born 1870 Iowa and Adrian age 8 born 1872 Iowa. I think Alfred was Alfred H.
