Summer has arrived! It's a great time to get out and walk cemeteries,
take photos of headstones, churches, historical sites, visit with county
recorders and clerks, and transcribe records. All of the great
information and photos you collect can find a home on an IAGenWeb county
or project. So can you if you become a county coordinator. It's not
necessary to live in Iowa to be a coordinator - just a love of Iowa's
genealogy and the desire to help others. New coordinators are needed

There is an older part of the Colfax Cemetery called Oak Hill. I have the
cemetery book and I find nothing regarding the graves for any of the names
you listed. I even tried spelling variations. In the book is a section
called "data from old scrapbooks" and there is a Harris Mardis and William
Mardis listed in that section. It says:
MARDIS, HARRIS 24 OCT 1862 25 OCT 1890 OBIT DATE
MARDIS, WILLIAM AGED 12 OCT 1899 AGED 38 Y 5 M 14 D OBIT DATE
That is how it is typed in the book! I hope this is of some

I have looked for the grave of Belle Rose who died at 2 years, parents were George & Jane Rose. Roses came from MI to Colfax in 1879, she is not in 1880 census. She could have been born after census taken. Her father George buried at Colfax, I recall 1936 date for him. Sidney Wilder died in sand cave-in and I cannot find his burial either, Sidney & a sister should be there. Are there Wilder or Rose listed in the book you have.
Thank you so much for any information. Have you put this i
Colleen,
Could you please check your book for any De Reus or Dereus family members buried in that Cemetery?
I'm working on the descendants of my 3rd great-grandparents who came over from Holland in 1850.
Any help will be most appreciated. Other names I'm researching in the Colfax area are: Cushman and Kellogg.
