I am hoping someone could provide me with information concerning my grandmother Anna L. Schmitt nee Walker. She was born in 1873 in Rock Island Co., IL and died in 1941 in Iowa City, IA. I can't seem to find any census information verifying these facts or anything else about her except:
Her father was Louis (Lewis) Walker, mother Elizabeth McFarland (who died in 1904 according to Cemetery information). Louis was born in 1825 in Bern, Switzerland and died June 8, 1899 in Moscow township, Muscatine Co., IA. T

Hi,
We may be visiting the area courthouses & libraries
within the next couple of weeks.
Are birth, death, and marriage records available
for viewing by the public? What years do they
begin? Or are we just limited to looking at the indexes?
What about deeds/mortgages....can you see the
actual records?
What are the cost for copies of any of these records?
When are the courthouses open and what are the addresses?
Is there a library close by that has old Iowa papers on microfilm?
Any suggestions
