Hi Listmembers,
I really need some help climbing over a very high and difficult
brick wall!!
I am searching for my g grandmother, MARTHA A. SMITH. She was born
in England about 1858. The family story is that she was either
sent or brought to America to be educated, but when she got here,
she was put into the fields to work.
She married GEORGE WORTH WILSON in Polk County, IA about 1878. They
were there for the 1880 census with their first son, William. She
stated that she and both her parents were bo
Is there anyone out there who has access to the Jordan Cemetery in West Des
Moines who would be willing to take a few photos for me? This county is not
covered at all by the Cemetery Photo List Volunteers. I'm willing to pay for
35 mm film and processing costs or film can be sent to me to develop on my
own. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Nettie - I don't know how much help I can be, but -- I graduated from
North High in 1952 and my mother graduated there in 1931. My only
suggestion is that you write to North High Alumni Association or the school
itself and ask if they have any information.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their replies to my request yesterday for
information on Highland Park College.
I sent messages to the individuals, but just in case I missed someone, thank
you for your help and offers to find out more - what a nice group!
Good luck to all of you this new year.

"Highland Park College was established in 1889 on the northeast corner
of Second and Euclid avenues. Originally a privately operated school,
in 1911 it was taken over by a board of trustees of the Presbyterian
Church. The tree-shaded campus had four buildings and an enrollment of
about 2,000 students. It was a leader in education in that it combined
liberal arts with technical and vocational training. It offered full
four-year courses to those who had the time an
Hi!
I'm new to the list and was wondering if anyone is familiar with the history
of Des Moines had heard of Highland Park College. My grandfather graduated
around 1915 from this college (according to his obituary).
Is it still in existance? Would there have been yearbooks or any publication
with student pictures at that early date?
I'd appreciate any information.
Thank you,
Mary Saggio

Also, check out theTombstone Transcription Project at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/registry.html. This is a group of volunteers from
all over the nation who are inputting cemetery info. Everyone should take a look
and, if you can, volunteer to do the cemeteries in your area.. especially the old
ones that are deteriorating and being vandalized. Regards, Peg

Hi Karol and list,
I am also seeking Smith's in IA. I have Raymond HENDRICKS (son of Clarence H.
HENDRICKS and Elizabeth Caroline ESSEX) b. Jul 1895, m. Jul 20 1916, in
Muscatine Co IA, Goldie Mae SMITH, b. abt 1897, IA. The 1920 census lists
Goldie's mother, Ida SMITH (b. abt 1861) in their household as divorced, so
"Mr" SMITH's given name and Ida's maiden name are unknown to me. According to
this census both of Goldie's parents were born in IA. So far, most of my
information involves Muscatine Co, how
Hi, Mary -- I grew up in Highland Park but left Des Moines in 1952. I
believe you can find out more about the history of Highland Park College by
talking with the librarians at the Highland Park Library at 5th? and
Euclid. It has quite a history! My mother recently sent me a newspaper
clipping from either the DM Register or Tribune (probably the Register)
about it and if I can locate it among all my genealogy papers, I'll contact
you again.

I am searching for Ada M.FOSTER JASTRUMSKE.
At the moment I know very little about Ada, but what I do know is this:
Ada M. FOSTER married Clarence E. JASTRUMSKE in Des Moines, Iowa on 23
Sep 1929. Ada's husband grew up in Des Moines and graduated from North
High School in January 1925. Clarence was born in Jul 1905, so I am
estimating that Ada was probably born between 1905 - 1910.
In the Des Moines City Directory of 1944, it lists Clarence & Ada M.
JASTRUMS
If anyone can help Stacey I would appreciate some Jordan Cemetery photos
also. Photos of any Rice headstones especially Esau Daly Rice who died at
Commerce in 1877 probably February. I don't know if Esau is buried there.
I would be glad to share the expenses.
Does anyone know of other old cemeteries in the Commerce, Valley Junction,
Van Meter area where Esau may be buried?

Hello All:
Just wanted to say thank you to all those who responded re my request
for reserch assistance in Polk County. I think I have enough places to
start now. Thank you so much.
By the way - I'm searching for the Casner/Carsner family who went to IA
from MO circa 1843. They are found in Marion County in 1847-49 where the
father (and head of the family) dies. He leaves a wife (Jincy Jane
Fields Casner) and 12-14 children - all but one are sons. The family is

Is there anyone on this list who lives in Polk County, IA who might
assist me with some genealogical research. I am looking for a
volunteer, but would consider research assistance for a fee. The events
I will be looking for occured in the 1840s-1850s.
This is my first posting to the Polk Co., Iowa list.
I am looking for Mrs. Helen WhiteThompson and
Mrs. Regina White Russell who were living in Des
Moines, Iowa on January 30, 1950. Does
anyone have these people in your database?
These people are sisters and were probably
born in MO. between 1910-1925.
