Surname: Alexander
-------------------------
You do not say if your Alexander family was in Van Buren County. There
were two distinct familes there. Mine, who came from West Virginia, and
a second family that came through either Tennessee or Kentucky. If you
are seeking this second Alexander family, you might check the census to
see for sure what state they were from and continue from there.

There are two Iowa state censuses that might help. If any family members
were in Iowa in 1925, it lists parents and further information about them.
Also, there is an 1856 state census. William would not be in it, but surely
the Bell family would be.
To my knowledge, neither have been indexed.
You didn't say what Iowa records you have searched, but since you don't have
a county to go on, I suspect you have not looked at an 1860 index for the
federal census taken in Iowa. I suggest that would be the pla

Me too, as my Methodist grandparents, William and Crissy Williams, settled
in 1849 near what is now the town of Mt. Sterling. The Methodist minister
may have officiated at William's funeral sometime in the early 1850's.
However, I'm wondering if there was a Methodist minister in residence, as
when my great grandparents married in 1852 they traveled south to Scotland
County for assistance of the Justice of the Peace.
