It appears that a made a small yet significant error in my information
below. The individual I am seeking information about is Moses Bullard, not
Moses Lear. Many apologies for my error.
Responders have located both a 1900 census report where he was a boarder in
Chicago and a death certificate in 1944. If the census report is for the
same person, he would have been about 45 when he married my gr-gr
grandmother five years after that, and being a clerk, not a wealthy man.

My only suggestion is to look in Chicago Encycopedia.Perhaps there would be a

Does anyone have any suggestions on find a marriage certificate/license for William Warren Milby and Dorothy P. Raymond? She was born in Iowa(I don't know where, that is part of my problem) and he was born in Illinois. In the 1930 census they are in Chicago. The census says he is 27, first married he was 25. So I'm guessing he and she were married in 1928. I have had the records searched from 1928-1944 at the Vital Statistics office in Chicago, no luck. Any help will be welcomed.
I am looking for someone who would be willing to do a few lookups of information for me. I have some information to go on. This involves 1890 and 1900 census for Proviso Twp??(225 Loomis St area). Also a transcription from Mt Carmel Cemetery and hopefully a photo. Please contact privately for more info and fees expected. Thanks
Hi Juli
There is a Margaret Fennessey, age 44 born Ireland living with her children on the 1870 Census on the 18th Ward of Chicago, with the following children:
Elizabeth, age 18 born MA
Michael age 14, born IL
Mary (?), age 8, born IL
Margaret T, age 5, born IL
Joseph, age 9 months, born IL
There is also an Edward Fennessey age 27, living with his family in Lake Township, Illinois in 1870.
Hope this helps
Kate
I'm not sure where to go from here. Is there any one who would visit Calvary
and let me know
The information I find has Carrie B. Strauss m. William W. Milby, 24 April
1902, in Vanderburgh county, Indiana. They had a son Leroy Milby who married
Dorothy Raymond. In 1930 Leroy and Dorothy are living in Chicago. Leroy is 27
born in Illinois and married at 25. Dorothy is 24 and born in Iowa.
It appears that Dorothy may have been born in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1906.
In the 1910 census Leroy is shown as living with his widowed mother and that
he is born in Illinois.
In the 1920 census Leroy is listed
There are many of us on this list that are more than willing to do look-ups
and often, much research, without charge, but you need to post the
information that you do have. It is really frustrating to spend time looking up
obits, censuses, etc., only to be told -- Oh, I already had that ... sigh.
It also helps when those who do send info to notify the list what has been
sent. Actually, when the info itself is posted to the List, that information has

"ol timers" on the list love a good hunt. Post the name and what you are
looking for and I bet you'll get the info before the night is out. It is
also suppose to be a beautiful weekend here in Chicago - very possible
that someone on the list will be heading out to Mt. Carmel this weekend.
One last thing - Sign your name - we love to know who we are helping
even if it is just Joe.

Hi!
the 1900 census says the wife's name is Laura. I figured they were married
1890-1891. Your best bet is the marriage indexes for Cook County. They are
on microfilm with the LDS Library.
I sent you the jpg for the 1900 census under a separate email.
Was there a church listed on the death certificate? Sometimes they were
listed.
You might check the church records closest to Loomis St.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Bonnie has checked out the 1900 census and then followed with the 1910 census (John died in 1909) and wasn't able to find the wife or son as listed in the 1900 census. No such luck. Thanks all for trying anyway.
I guess my next best bet will have to be the cemetery. Thanks to all from rainy Ontario Canada
My gr-gr grandmother was married to four men in her lifetime and I am
writing to request help in information about the fourth one. Phillipena
(Sutter) Cuykendall Washburn Lear married Moses S Lear in either Grundy
County or Chicago between 1904-1907. I only know his name because of her
death certificate and will. I don't know when or where he was born although
I can speculate that he was born probably between 1830-1845 based on
Phillapena's age, or Bena, as she was also known. Can anyone find any

Thanks for so much response. Someone has already offered to lookup the 1900 census for me. I am looking for John Keating born in Ontario Canada about October 1864 and died in Chicago November 29, 1909 at 225 Loomis Street. He is buried at Mt Carmel Cemetery according to the death certificate. Family thinks he may have been married two to three times but no family.
He is in the Ontario 1881 census but not the 1891 census. Since there is no 1890 cenus left in Chicago I guess the only chance is the 1900.
Thanks!

Hi all-
I'm researching 'Col' William A LaVelle, a Showman and actor who lived from the 1850s-1924. His obituary indicates that he worked at The 'Old McVickers' Theater in Chicago and with other groups in the area.
I believe he worked with the Madison Square Company(1880s), and the Straggler Comedy Company(1891-?), but I'd really like to find some record of him at the McVickers Theater.
Does anyone know of anyone who has done research into the theater? Or know of any books or websites that could help?
COMPANIONSHIP!
My father remarried @ age 70+ When I asked him why, he said for companionship.

I also found the John and Laura with son Arthur, age 4 in the 1900
census, however, I doubt this is her man as he is said to have died in
1909 and John and Laura, with son Arthur as well as another child are
found in 1910, so hopefully somebody will find something at Mt Carmel.
It might be beneficial to call the cemetery ((708) 449-8300) and see if
they will tell you if there is somebody else buried in the same plot -
child or wife.

I really messed up. Dorothy was married to LeRoy Milby, not William Warren.
William Warren was LeRoy's dad. She was born in 1905. So sorry for the
mistake.

Saturday, April 21, 2007 is PGSA Genealogy Saturday at
the Polish Museum of America (PMA) library. Polish
Genealogical Society of America (www.pgsa.org)
volunteers will be available to assist you with Polish
genealogy research questions.
Because the PMA and PGSA are also hosting an all-day

If you've already checked the Cook County vitals for the years
of interest, try Lake County, INDIANA. It was apparently quite
the destination for quickie weddings. Crown Point is the county seat.
Good luck.

A quick summary of the information on this death certificate: Born in
Monroe, Alabama; about 70 years old; married to Sarah Davis; father

Took a VERY quick glance at the marriage index for Cook County, but
didn't see a match for Moses 1900-1909, although the name "Bullard" does
