Thanks so much for the info on the Kastnings. It does answer many of the questions. Your services are invaluable.
I'll have to go back and look at that 1870 census again to see if any of Justine's names resemble what is written there. Stennue really stumped me. I should clarify by saying that is how the folks at Ancestry clarified her name. I'm thinking the census taker didn't get things straight?
And, obviously, October 1879 was a sad time for this family with the passing of Sophie and Alwine.
Jane,
Pasted below is a report that may answer many of your questions about the

Jane,
Any chance of getting a copy of that picture? I am a descendant of Christof and Justine Kastning through Margaret Kastning and Albert Sporleder. I have a picture of Margaret and Albert if you are interested. I called Margaret Kastning "little grandma". Albert was known as AC. They were my great grandparents through Edgar Sporleder. I think Selma Nerge was my mom's Aunt Selma.
Best,
Lloyd King

I'd be happy to send you a scan of the picture but I must warn you that
the picture is very faded. It is viewable though. And, after looking
at the picture again, I can see why you called Margaret "Little
Grandma." She was definitely shorter than Bertha or Marie. Also,
Justine looks awfully familiar to me. These little insights are always
good to hear.
Do you have any idea how Selma Nerge was related to the Charles Quindel
family?

My mom's cousin Kenneth must have had that one. Well, I don't know what appeared in the paper but I will try to get mine scanned for you. I have hesitated in the past but perhaps it is time.
My mom certainly remembers Albert's funeral as a child. In those days there was no funeral home. They held the wake at the house.
