Does anyone know if there is any information on the fire that destroyed a lot
of the downtown area of Flat Rock, IL in 1912. If so, how could I get a copy
of it? My great grandfather, George Harmon Goodlink, was the building
contractor who rebuilt most of the Flat Rock business district after this
fire.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA,

Are you by any chance descended from John B Meyer from
Robinson, IL circa 1870?

HI :) Been to the library today and find in the 1880 census of Crawford

he belongs to Edward from a previous marrige. Benj. was born in OH and
both parents were born there as well.
Sarah is 58 and born in OH and both her parents were
Hi :) There is no Flat Rock paper for 1912 on microfilm. The Argus was around at
that time, but I don't know how much it had in it about the fire. Although you
can order that on microfilm from the IL state library. There is some good
material on the fire in the files of the Robinson library. You may want to
contact Marilyn Manning at the Robinson Library and see how much it would cost
for her to copy the file. There was a souvenior edition on Flat Rock put out by
the Daily News around 1950, I may be wrong o
I am researching my CAIN line. Sarah Cain b. 1826 and died 1889 in,
presumably Crawford co. Ill. Her children were Charles Cain, Martha
Cain, Mary Cain, Benjamin Cain, Alvah Cain, Letitia Cain. After her
husband, Lewis died in 1871, that is when she moved to ILL. She
remarried in 1880 to Edward Hansford? (census record hard to read)
Anybody researching this line?
