Hi List,
I am back after a year and a half off. I am now trying to find anyone in Washington of Jefferson Co. that is researching the names listed. I just found in a probate box the name Victoria E. Downes (my great aunt) using the last name Reynolds. I am looking for any connection. I have the Downes info and will share anything I have.

This information was sent to another mailing list that I am on. Thought I
would pass it on. The Fremont Library is in St. Clair Co. IL and the other
is Burlington Iowa
Both sites have lots of information on things besides the Census. 1870 is
indexed and searchable.

Thanks for the info about Mt. Vernon, Jefferson, Illinois. I have a g
grandmother and gg grandmother that was born and died there. I know very
little about any other family members other than STARK. That book sounds
like great reading, I will try to find out if I can get it Interlibrary
loaned.

In looking up the page you mention for 1830, it looks like the individual is
named Joseph, but I did see John in 1840.

Oh, I was having one of those days.
The John McLaughlin in the 1840 Census of Jeff. Co. was is my 3rd great
grandfather. As near as I can tell, the other McLAUGHLINs on the 1840
Census are brothers and nephews of g-g-g-grandpa John.
In the 1830 Census of Jefferson Co., Illinois is the following
McLAUGHLIN:
On page 216a - McLauglan, Joseph 1111001000000 1122010000000
I got to wondering if he might have been an uncle, and his brother's
boys followed him to Jefferson Co., Illinois from Maine (their father
The following was posted to the Franklin County site. It also appears on

I don't know who the Joseph was either. He may very well have been a relative. Here is some information on the McLaughlin family.

I sure hope they find who did the damage and prosecute them to the
fullest measure of the law. Some people obviously have no respect for
the living or the dead.
How sad to hear of this happening! Hearing this, makes me realize how
really important it is to document all the cemeteries to preserve them
for the future.

Unfortunately it is that time of year when some find it fun? to vandalize
Cemeteries.
Bethel Cemetery was vandalized Friday evening. I stopped by there today as
it was closed off yesterday (Sat.) when the police were investigating.
I would say that at least fifty stones have been turned over or knocked off
the foundation. One row only had two stones left standing. This damage
occurred in the most southern section of the cemetery, which is a newer
section.
