2. [ILJOHNSO] DAMRON/McCLAIN Connections [1]
We have established a close connection between our McCLAINs and the DAMRONs. Both families seem to be from NC via Ky and Tn and were early settlers in Gallatin Co, IL. Both families moved to Weakley Co, TN about 1823. Charles DAMRON was the executor of Charles McCLAIN's estate in 1846. There are several marriages to McCLAIN women noted in the DAMRON books. We just can't sort out which McCLAIN families they came from. If we can make these connections we can extend you our McCLAIN line back to 1711 in MD.

Does any kind soul have the 1870 Johnson Co, IL census, or access to it -- who would look up a William B. 12. Re: [ILJOHNSO] Little Egypt Heritage, 29 June 2003, Vol 2 #25 [1]
Greetings Bill, I did so enjoy your article. My mother, from "Little Egypt" married my dad in 1924 and came north to North Central Wisconsin. Leaving her Scot-Irish family she was transplanted into a German one. She loved to tell stories. One I remember well, was about "Old Man Johns." He passed away and was laid out, at home, in the parlor. As the wake moved into high gear with the passing of the jug, one of the mourners asked for a "chaw". At that moment the dearly departed, sat up in his coffin and
13. Re: [ILJOHNSO] Little Egypt Heritage, "General Store", 21 December 2008, Vol ... [1]
HI- I had to write you about this one!! My aunt and uncle Dora Escue Ragsdale & Herbert Ragsdale had a General Store in Buncombe, Johnson Co, IL, til in the 50's. It was one of my favorite things when visiting there, to go to the store. I also have a pic of it, which I had put on the Johnson co site,(assume it is still there), with them in side the store. Much variety of goods can be seen there. :) Thanks for reminding me of good times and memories. Mery Christmas & Happy Holidays!! Joyce
14. [ILJOHNSO] FINNEY/ELKINS [1]
Hello. I just joined this list and am hoping for some help in connecting my ancestry to two families who appear in the Johnson County, IL records. Currently, I am trying to link my ancestor, Andrew Jackson FINNEY (b. ca 1820- d. 10 Mar 1869 in Montgomery Co., IL) to two possible parents. They were Sarah REYNOLDS (b. ca 1775-d. ca 1845) and John FINNEY (b. ca. 1765-d.1837). I have no primary sources substantiating this connection. If my inferences are correct, Andrew Jackson ("Jack") was Greenville Penn

Nan, Thanks for posting the updates. I spent a good deal of time this afternoon checking out the various postings on the Genealogy Trails site. Thanks to Larry Toler for putting my great grandfather's William Riley Maze's obituary out there. I have a copy that was posted in the newspaper, but don't know what newspaper, where? It was my understanding he was living with his daughter in the St. Louis area when he died. Maybe a St. Louis newspaper or perhaps a Johnson County newspaper carried it. Alw
