If your letter is addressed to me, I would venture that the photo of Silas
Thomas Baker was taken post-Civil War, when he was either in his 30's or
40's. That would be between the late 1860's to 1870's - possibly 1880's but I
doubt the photo is that new.

Carol,
I have a photograph with the photographer being a C. D. Mosher
from 125 State Street in Chicago. The studio was established in 1850.
I have this image of the back of the photograph in a .jpg format
that I could email you privately if you wish. The back of this photo
is a real work of art.

Select "Photographers" to see the Mosher picture. I still haven't

the person on the front so if you discover any information as to this
studio, please
let me know.

Can anyone out there tell me what cemeteries were in existance in the 1860's in the Blackberry Twp. area. My grgrgrandparents are buried in Kane Co. and all I have to go on are the land records indicating they had property in Blackberry Twp. from 1840 on.
Much thanks.
Julie
Susanne,
Thank you for the input. I will get my map out and see if I can find a name
for it.

Check this out! Fire Insurance maps. Some from the 1800s. There are also
other states that have maps, and other libraries that carry the films.

Hi There,
My GIBBS family were all from New England and eastern New York. I have just
found out that my Elizabeth Johnson was born in Staten Island, NY in 1809.
I believe that her husband John was born in Ireland, but I am not sure. I
would love to find out something about their life in Illinois and any other
children. Thanks if you can tell me anything about my George's family. I
am not sure if I mentioned that my George had a "few" middle names. My gram
always told me that his full name was G
Hi Julie.......
I'm not sure if this will be any help, but there is a cemetary located on
Route 47, on the Southern edge of Elburn. I've never visited it, so I don't
know the date of establishment. This may be a place to start though. The
area just South of Elburn is considered Blackberry, and this is the only
cemetary I know of in that area. There is a cemetary in Kaneville, but that
is a few miles to the West........
Hope this info. is of help and I haven't confused you.

It isn't listed with others on my site at Cemeteri
es in Kane County, IL
However,
Big Woods is usually referred to as the area between Batavia and North Aurora
- Aurora, so that would be my first guess as to general location.
Maybe the folks at
Batavia - River Hills Memorial Park, 1650 S. River, Batavia, IL 60510
630/879-7400
can offer insite if no one on the list responses.

Thanks very, very much! I knew Maple Park was very near Dekalb County, but
apparently it's closer than I realized!
I think you may very well have found my grandparent's graves, although it
will take some more investigation to be sure. I do not recognize the
Costello children (probably
Hi
My ancestors also lived in Blackberry Twp. but they were buried in Suger
Grove Cem. Suger Grove. The cemetry is quite old, with gravestones
going back to the early 1840's.

Hi again.......I don't mean to bother you.
Are you in the Chicago area? I live/work in Batavia, which is not far from
Blackberry Twp, etc. If I can make some phone calls or anything for you,
please let me know. I'd love to be of help.

Hello Carol,
I don't have any information about your Kane Co. ancestors, but I'm
interested in your Jewell ancestors in NY and PA. Our direct Jewell
family came from Otsego Co., NY, but I have an extensive database of
relatives throughout the area. I look forward to sharing information
with you.
Art Burch
p.s. I may also have info for some of your other surnames.
