I would like any information regarding ALMON CLARK and his family.
ALMON was married to LETITIA ANN TREGO, daughter of
CURTIS D. TREGO. She was born in 1843 and died in 1928. He was
born in 1809 Sep 18, 1809 in Bucks, PA and died in 1994 in
Dexter, IA.
The only information I have on the CLARK's is that his oldest daughter,
LAURA MAY CLARK was born in Oneida on Nov 21, 1868. She was my great
grandmother, yet I have no information about her father or
her two sisters CORA BELL and EMMA T. LAURA MAY marr
Peggy,
Would your George E. Powell happened to be married to a "Woolsey"? I
have a George E. Powell who lived in that area that married Opal
Woolsey. George E was the son of George W. Powell and Angie Smith
Powell. Let me know if there's a connection. If there is, we need to
connect.
Thanks.

Donna,
I don't know the name of Clara Beckman's parents, but I know she came here
from Sweden on the same ship that Lars (Lewis) came on. That is how they
met. She may have been with her parents. My grandfather told me they came
while the Civil War was going on.
On 19 Oct 1864, Lars became naturalized at the Clerk of Courts Office in
Knoxville, Knox County, Ill. Peter Peterson and Benjamin Olsen gave
testimony that he had resided in the US for at least five years and in state

February 2d, as the evening shadows were gathering around, Hugh MCILRAVY of Copley and Miss Viannie TAYLOR of Persifer township, presented themselves at the parsonage, and in the twilight hour, that loveliest hour of all the day, pledged their faith "either to other" so long as both shall live. Pat,
Thank you for the transcribed obituaries. My ggggrandmother was Elsie
Alice Bales, and all I have for her is that she died in Elba Twp., Knox Co.
in 1848. Is there a date for this obit? Her father was supposed to be Jacob
Bales, and she married John Allen Thurman in 1812 in Ohio. Perhaps she and
John Thurman divorced and she remarried a Wesley. Trying to see if this is
my Elsie Bales.
Thanks!

A few weeks ago there was discussion about this book. There is a copy on
eBay. Currently there is one bid and the amount is $19.95. This book is
not "solid history". Calkins was an advertising genius and wrote in a
persuavise style. His "research" largely consisted of getting people to
write him letters. He doesn't give the sources of his stories. When we
worked on the program for the C-Span Lincoln-Douglas Debate Reenactment we
found Calkins account to be horrible when compared to primary accounts.

Anyone know anything more about the Mathers name? My Agness Elizabeth
Gaddis married James Mathers 3 Mar 1876 in Knox County. They had a child,
Nora E Mathers, b. 1879, d. 1970 and is buried in Memorial Park in Galesburg.
I know there are a John, Joseph and W Mathers mentioned on the ILMAGA
webpage, but haven't been able to connect them in any way to my James yet.

Dear Rex,
I am interested in any information on the Lincoln Douglas debate, as my
GGgrandfather John Tipton Barnett was a the Marshall of the day at the
debate. I have no idea what his participation was in it. He was also a
friend of Lincoln's when they both lived in Sangamon Co. IL.. Any
suggestions for more research leads would be appreciated very much.
