Allen McDonell was born in the parish of Bunoich,
Invernesshire, Scotland in 1824 or 1825. The date of 1
Oct. is either his birthdate or christening date. He
was the son of Ranald McDonell and Anne McIntosh,
"spinster" as listed by his birth certificate. Anne
was the daughter of Duncan McIntosh. Ranald McDonell
never married but acknowledged Allen as his son in his
will which was filed in Inverness after his death in
1869. Ranald had a second son by Ellen Nunns of
Liverpool, Eng. in 1845. The son, Richa
Thank you very much, jaw, for your reply to my question. I had looked at the
Illinois death index and couldn't find Nellie. That is why I was wondering
if there was a newspaper obit index, in case she died out of state. She was
a life long resident of LaSalle County and married into two local families,
the Rices and the Gretencords.
Perhaps Grand Ridge had its own newspaper at that time, but if so, I
don't know what it could be. I have found though, that if other LaSalle

Thanks to everybody who responded about Shabbona.
I found a picture of the monument on the DeKalb county site. Still have
not found a picture of statue.
Seems to me there was a small museum in that area. Anyone know the
hours or phone number? Or directions. I do know there are two parks.
A relative came down from Chicago for a picnic, went to the wrong one.
The postings about the early settlers has been very interesting.
Is there a site for La Salle County History? A site with a short

Joy,
If you can surmise which cemetery she may be buried at, they may very well
still have the records. I sent to St. Vincent's Cemetery for burial records,
and although it is now run by a management company, they had records back to
about 1870, and sent me a prompt reply with the records I had requested.
It's probably worth a try.

Greetings from Streator,
Monsignor is pastor at Immaculate Conception. Really glad to have him
here. Enjoy his sermons. I want to stop at the rectory and check out
some of my elusive "Riverside" burials. IF I can get my data is some

Is Bridget Prendergast Quinn buried in Lostlands, died Dec. 3, 1885, and
Michael 1826 - 1901, also buried in Lostlands.
By the way, my cousin, Bob Seroka, married Isabelle Comisky, the
daughter of Vincent and Mildred (Whalen) Comisky

The Dugans are illusive! I have been unable to find any family connections
for Elizabeth.
All we know is that she married John Walsh sometime prior to 1857. Where and
when are mysteries.
We think she was born in 1838 and came to this country from Ireland in 1848.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi

I can't help you many specifics on the Davis family, but I do have a couple
of accounts of the massacre from my ancestors' reports - the Halls were
neighbors of the Davis family and were at their house on Big Indian Creek
when they were killed.
A transcript of Rachel & Sylvia Hall's account is on my genealogy website
at:

It is under the information on Rachel (my ancestor), you need to scroll way
down to see it.
There is also a transcript there from a
Only a guess , but have you tried the town Staunton, Macoupin Co, ILL?
Your Lucy is listed in Harristown, Macon Co,ILL on 1880 c.
Your John GEHM is listed in Pana, Christian CO, ILL on 1880 c.
This is true S of Harristown ; almost the same distance that Pana is from
Staunton.
Also your John's parents are listed as Gertrude wid born in Prussia and
husand born in Germany.
It might have be misunderstood exactly what the name of town was???????
Check it out.
no I'm not kin just trying to help your search.
