Bloom where you are planted
I noticed in the ILLASALL-D Digest V06 #38 that you posted a Streator Daily
Free Press article on a Tony Prendergast died in Texas 1914.
I have been trying to find some information on my Donelon and Finnegan
lines. These families spent some time in La Salle County in the late 18009s
before moving on to Carroll County Iowa. I have a Kate Finnegan that
married a John Prendergast in La Salle County on 7 February, 1875. Kate is a
sister to Elizabeth Finnegan who married Michael Patrick Donelon in La Salle

Erin,
When I was living in La Salle in the 1940's-50's, one of our neighbors
were the Gergovichs, which may be a variation of who you're looking for.
They lived on 9th. St. and the names I remember are Rudy(the father), and
children Judy and Donald. And they did attend the "Slovenian" Catholic
Church, St. Roch's, which now goes by another name after consolidation.
Good Luck, Donna K

Mr. Thomas Herbert died at his home in Brookfield township Thursday, and
was buried in the Seneca cemetery Saturday. Mr. Herbert settled in that
township many years ago; by untiring industry he became the possessor of
considerable property, which afforded him a large income in his declining
years. He passed away surrounded by relatives and sympathizing friends, at the
ripe old age of 76 years.

A question or two.
What is a (Slavic) ?
I have over 70,000 names in my family history.
What with my children, husbands, ex's, cousins,

I was just wondering what I should be looking for ?
If you do not mind my asking ?
I know that there are German, Dutch, Wales, Italy,
Irish, Polish, English, Scotland, Mexican, Canada,
and a lot of I don't knows.

familysearch.org has Anna born in Austria, per her marriage license.
Mother's name as Turek...but considering her father's is listed as Shoboda,
don't know how accurate/close that spelling is.
The Breimer name has been around Streator for a while, I think William's
brother was a city commissioner back about 60 years ago.
In Riverview, by himself, is William F. Breimer 1867 - abt 16 Oct. 1939.

Hello,
I have found that for some of the Catholic Churches in
LaSalle County the Guild has records of the Marriages
and Baptisms. Does the Guild hold records for the
church records for the Deaths?
I have not been able to locate through the newspaper
obits that the Guild holds any records of my
ancestors. Most of them died around 1870. My great
great grandfather lived in Utica prior to his death.
I am assuming from that that his place of death was
Utica. He died in 1893 if I have the dates from his

Hi Beverly:
PAL is not a surname but an abbreviation for the given names of my husband
and myself. Incidentally, I am doing research in several Midwestern states,
including Iowa.

Hi,
Does anyone know if there are any employment records from the Mattiessen & Hegeler Zinc Works.
My Great-grandfather worked in a zinc mine in the 1880's and I was wondering if this was the mine.
His name was Anton Korpal, he came from Poland ( I believe Dembowko) and married Mary Lenski Jan. 31,1882 in St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in LaSalle, Illinois.
They lived at 940 8th in LaSalle according to my grandfather's birth certificate.
My grandfather's uncle (Mary's brother) lived at 1069 Hennepin in LaS

Maybe they just don't work on their genealogy!
My husband's family is from Holy Trinity Lutheran in Streator, which still had Slovak services for a long time after we were married in 1966.
Slovenia and Slovak are not the same thing...two different countries. When Czechoslavakia broke in two halves, it became the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Apparantly two different ethnicities.
The whole name thing is just crazy. His family changed the spelling 4 or 5 times. That's not even talking ab

I am looking for the grave of Affne Smith who supposedly died Oct. 10, 1871.
However, I have just found, on another site, a reference to Union Grove being

I am very happy to see the interest in Daniels Cemetery - since several of my husband's ancestors are buried there. They are Daniels, Kleiber and Channel family.
The cemetery is located in Rutland Twp. It's west of Highway 71, just south of the interstate, on the farm owned by Bob Trumbull.
Everett Ross took me to visit the cemetery in July of 2003, I believe. I too would like to see this cemetery restored.
The Guild has a copy of the transcription done by the DAR in 1955 - and I also have a copy of

were the same, that may help narrow the list of LaSalle County

Sorry I should have clarified my assertions more. Lead Ore not Zinc Ore came from north west ILL and southwest Wisconsin. Zinc was a result of the smelter process. This is not intended to say that M@H were the only smelters in operation either. There were several on Site in Wisconsin and the Shot Tower that was used to form Lead Balls is a famous Tourist spot to this day.John

There wasn't a zinc mine. There was a coal mine at M&H where they mined
coal to use in the production of the zinc. The zinc came from Galena, IL

I am searching for information on my great grandparents Moses Wheeler b.
July 25, 1834 and Isabel (Belle) Brewer Wheeler b. May 10, 1854. I think she was
born in Ottawa, LaSalle County, as was their daughter Blanche Mae Wheeler.
She was also known as Dollie Wheeler. Any information on this family would be
gladly accepted. I have no idea at this time who Belle's parents were or
where they were from. Still looking.
