Floyd and other interested list members:
I finally got the picture back that was posted to the list. We sent it to
Elsie Moore Burge who is probably the only person in the picture that
is still living. She is 97 1/2 years old. Her daughter says that her mind
is still great.
Here is what she could name.

Hi Ron,
Before I head out, and for others on the list, here are some names
identified in a photo of Brown Bible Class:
Ed Alderson, "Smith", Joe Mulvaney, Bob Haddleston, William Jones, Cora
Monical, "Wilcox", Tom Neal, Elijah Haddleston, "Gordon", Elizabeth Landers,
"Jones".
I also have an early photo postcard of the ROLAND COOK house and family. If
anyone is related to this family, this is a great photo. It will make you
appreciate whatever home you're living in.

Floyd's posting regarding school pictures reminded me of two that I have. The school is somewhere in the Kinmundy area and I would like to identify the exact school. The only persons I can tentatively identify are Earl Courson, Mae Courson France and Ethel Courson Merritt. Is there someone on the list who might be able to help?
Gwen
Descendant of COURSON, SHANAFELT, ROTHROCK lines
There was a school Southeast of the Elder/Courson Cemetry. It was call "TICK RIDGE".
There was also a Country School north of the Elder/Courson Cemetery. It was called "SWITZER" School.
One of these is probably where the Courson children went to school. My guess is Tick Ridge as it is near several Courson farms.

Steve,
Brown School was across the road from where Brown Christain Church is at.
You are correct that it is in Omega Twp. An old plat map shows the school on
the north edge of section 11 of Omega Twp. I have an old group photo dated
1898 of the school but none of the people are identified. There was also a
school near the old Miletus Post Office on the southern edge of Meacham Twp.
This would be almost directly north of where Brown Church is at. (Somewhere
in the area where Krutsinger Rd intersects Neal

Hi again Floyd
Of course you guessed it I want a copy of the new picture.
We are making great progress identifying the other picture.
We have found one person in it that is still alive. She has it
now.
I will say now that the teacher was "Billy" Moore. And
the survivor is his daughter. Elsie Moore (Burge) who
is living with her daughter in the Chicago area.

I haven't tried this to see if it works all the time. I'm told it does. If
you try it repeatedly and it always works let us know. You need to know the
date of death and the age at death, two pieces of information often found on
old tombstones.
1. Write the death year, month, day as: -----------> 18890506
2. Subtract the age at death: ----------------> 710709
3. This gives the figure: ------------------------> 18179797
4. Now subtract 8870: --------------------------> 8870
5. The result is: ------------

Hi Gang,
Well, I've done gone and did it again. Yup, another picture turned up. This
one is of the Shanafelt School Class of 1889-1890. It's a copy of a
newspaper picture so is not as good as the last one, HOWEVER- it has a
caption with all the names. I'll copy the names here so if you see a
relative and so desire, I'll try to send you a copy. I have a feeling this
will be a big project. All of the young ladies in the list are shown with
their married names if known at the time, so I will include the marrie
Since we're on the topic of schools in Marion County, (and I would love for
this thread of Courson history to keep going), my grandmother Grace Boston
attended the Brown School. I have photos of that school and even some of
her writing booklets from the school with her notes and diagrams of the
county. Was that school in Omega Township? I think so. It's great stuff
and if you're interested in a scan or two, I'd be happy to provide it. If
you have anything on the Courson/Boston families, and haven't co
I have no info on a Grace Boston and I am not related in any way. There
was a school in section 26 of Meacham TWP. This is near the present Brown
Church. Perhaps they are connected.
