Hugh: Thanks for the response. I may have found John Mohlman on an LDS film which I'm currently going through. It covers the church records of Badbergen, Bippen, Gehrde, Menschlage & Quackenbruck. There is a Johan Gehard Mohlmann (umlaut over the "o") born November 14, 1828, christened November 22, son of Joh

Thanks, Hugh. I'm searching for John Mohlman who is buried in St. John's Lutheran Cemetary. My parents (Wayne & Helen Vanderveen of Havana), found his gravestone for me. He was born in 1828 in Hanover Kingdom, married in Peoria County to Anna Catherine Meersner (Meersen or Moersen) in 1861, and

Were there other Mason County families from Veldhausen? Any idea what language they spoke there when the Vanderveens left? The Artland group did quite a lot of work on the language spoken there. I remember seeing a poem in their dialect that made fun of how that dialect was somewhat between High German a

Hugh, thanks again for giving me suggestions on places to investigate. I'll contact the Artland website organization. German was my major in college, so I can make my way through the website with only a little difficulty.

That sounds like a great match. I think you're very likely to find much more in the Pohlsander Archive. He didn't miss many families in that area and was an excellent researcher. Records there were in Platdeutch, High German, Latin, and Greek, and he read all of them. He also searched many records that have

There are no other families in my ancestral tree directly from Veldhausen, but a number of them are from the general area. There are some Hortsmann's from the Bramsche/ Lahrberg area, which isn't too far away. It's interesting that the Mohlman's which I'm currently searching appear to have come from Bad

That other surname has me stumped. Meersner seems to be an Americanization of something. Meersen appears to be Dutch. Moersen appears to be Danish. I am trying to locate records on a (Neoma) Caroline Gideon. She was born 1854 and was married in April 1870 in Mason Co., Illinois to a John Gideon. Their son Charles was born in 1871 and she died shortly after. On his death certificate it states that he was born in Saidora, Illinois on June 4, 1871.
His father John was born In Kentucky.
Appreciate any help you can provide.

Is there any way to get exact death dates for a couple who lived in Marito Township at their deaths in 1874 and 1881? Specifically Elias Coryell / Coriell and wife Catherine Ann Bush who had 8 children. With the exception of their oldest son, Winfield Scott Coryell, who went to Rock Island County I have nothing for the children of this couple. They are in the federal censuses in Somerset Co NJ in 1850, Tazewell Co in 1860 and Mason Co in 1870. Their youngest daughter, Sarah, might have married J. W. Trent
