Hi Marilyn, It is me the "other Gibbs". I have Sophronia Gibbs married Jefferson Goodpasture. Would a Jefferson be one of the persons buried there? I lost track of Sophronia and Jefferson after they left Petersburg ( so I thought they left). How was your trip? Would love to hear about it. The reader will pardon this rather lengthy account of the settlement and subsequent history of Salem, but, as Lincoln's early history is so interwoven

10. [ILMENARD] Elmore, Trent, Ferguson, Greer [1]
Hi, Wednesday's history post mentioned the name of Travis Elmore, who served in the Black Hawk War under Abraham Lincoln. Would be interested in hearing from anyone from the Elmore family. I am not directly related to Travis, although I am trying to place/prove all the Travis' and there were a bunch! All the Elmore's in Cass, Mason, Menard and Sangamon seem to all be related. My direct line stayed in Kentucky. Also of particular interest in the Elmore line is James Elmore who married Nancy Strader and live

Someone on one of the lists was researching Goodpasture - I looked something up for them also - it's like "senior moments" have hit! Anyway, while I was in Spfld./Petersburg a month ago, I took some pictures at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Sweetwater and there were several Goodpasture stones there - so I took some of those too. If the Goodpasture people see this, email me and I'll be glad to send you the pictures. Marilyn - Fla
12. [ILMENARD] NGS Virtual Lecture Series [1]
This sounds like a way to improve your genealogy skills -- it's free. Do you want to chat with a genealogist? A personal consultation with a professional can be rather expensive! One way to circumvent the expense problem is to go online to chat with some of the country's most noted family historians. Ask them your most pressing questions on the topics being discussed. Everyone is invited to participate in the About Genealogy chat rooms administered by Kimberly Powell. A chat room is not a lecture hall, th

14. [ILMENARD] Graham, Short, Hohimer [1]
Hi again, Forgot to mention another New Salem connection -- Graham. I believe my Peter Elmore married Lidda Graham, daughter of William Barclay Graham. Wm. Graham had a son William, who was the grandfather of Mentor Graham, the New Salem school teacher. In an unexpected connection to the Menard County Shorts of the Oakford/Concord area is: My 4th great-grandfather was John Crain who died in Mercer Co., KY in 1831. His son, my 3rd great-grandfather Nathaniel, stayed in KY; his daughter Isabell married Josi

At lot of you have seen my postings that I always end with Roxanne of Oregon, or my name and the town I live in.. I have had several nice people from this list and other Illinois and KY lists I am on who have written to see if I was in the line of the fire..and the answer is no, and never have been..I live SCE Oregon...30 miles from the CA. border and although I am surrounded by fire, I still was never closer than about 40 miles from any danger..the bad part about my area that IF there was a fire here, I w
