1. Re: [ILPEORIA-L] 925 North Street [1]
There's a 1951 Peoria map at http://www.just1way.org showing North street; also, I have an 1896 map of the same area, which I can photograph/scan and send later today. I coped this from the Archives...thought it was in what I copied, I would say that it probably means that the graveyard was at the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pulaski but don't know if that is Twp. or city. Pat Morano ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheryl" To: Sent: Thursday, March 10, 2005 3:18 PM Subject: RE: [ILPEORIA-L] Root Family-William H. 5. Re: [ILPEORIA-L] Musgraves and Proctor Home [1]
Proctor Home is now Proctor Endowment Home, I believe, and it exists as a home for the elderly. Proctor Home was down on the South Side, not far from Proctor Hospital. Both Proctor Endowment Home and Proctor Hospital have moved out of the older section of Peoria, which now is very run-down. They moved north, out on or near No. Knoxville, I think. Buehler Home is still in existence and flourishing. It continues to expand and is the nicest and cleanest home for the elderly I have ever been in. My

9. RE: Catholic parishes in Peoria [1]
In 1860 both St. Mary's and St. Joseph's (German) parishes would have existed. In 1861 St. Patrick's(Irish)parish was formed. For a nice history and the current state of affairs look at the following web site. http://www.historicpeoria.com/select.cfm?chose=214 For additional information on St. Mary's church, click on "Religious Institutions" and then on "St. Patrick's Catholic Church". Kimberly, The only thing that I was able to conclude from searching for my grandfather's parents was that if a child was placed in the custody of the courts in Peoria Co., IL in 1900-1925 (not sure if these are exact dates as I was speaking to someone on the phone) they sent someone down from the Chicago location to pick them up and transport them back to Chicago. I don't know if this is the same one but just found this in the USGenweb Archives-IL...looks like Montgomery Co. Grisham Township Cemeteries Montgomery County Illinois My apologies for the cryptic method I used in column 6, to indicate 'LOCATION'. The letters 'gr' and 'sc' mean Grisham and Shoal Creek townships. The number is the section number. Although the cemetery in Shoal Creek township is in Bond county, I have included it as half of the village of Panama is Grisham and half is

Seek information on Charles Fisher, the son of Joseph Fisher (1798-1890) of Muskingum County, IL, and his descendants who lived in Peoria. The will of the said Joseph Fisher, who died on Dec. 21, 1890 and is probated in Muskingum County, OH, lists all of his children, including Charles Fisher, who moved to Peoria, IL. The Application for Letters of Administration also lists these grandchildren of Joseph Fisher, who are believed to be the children of the said Charles Fisher: Eugene Fisher, Peo
16. Re: [ILPEORIA-L] Illinois Children's Home and Society. [1]
When I talked to the Illinois Children's Home and Aide Society this week they said that they do not allow anyone to review their records as their records are sealed in the state of Illinois. But...you should keep calling them and writing them or the courts where the children were taken into custody, because sometimes the courts will give permission to view the records. What I was told was that all of the records are kept in the main branch in Chicago. Carrol Mick carrol@allthroughtheages.com ----- Origi

Hello All, I was interested in the request that mentioned the Illinois Children's Home and Society. What were the years it was in operation? Where would records from the Children's Home be found? I have a gggrandfather whose mother took him and his brother to an orphanage in Peoria before 1890. The two boys were later adopted by their father's family. We have since found the birth of a sister no one knew about and are wondering if she may have been placed there also. Kimberly Zumst
18. Re: [ILPEORIA-L] I need obituary help. [1]
I searched, more than once, for an obituary on an ancestor of mine who died in Peoria Co. in 1904. Then I remembered that he came from Germany, why would his family be reading or subscribing to an English written newspaper? I then ordered the microfilm for the German newspaper in Peoria and lo and behold, there was a beautifully written and information obit for him in that paper. In Wisconsin, where I reside, obits may be found in German newspapers from completely different cities that were not close
19. RE: [ILPEORIA-L] - Root Family [1]
DB The sister of one of my ancestors, Delilah Jane Slane, married William E Root in 1854 in rural Peoria County somewhere. William Root was born 1825 (location unknown) and died 1913 in Pawnee County, Nebraska. Delilah Slane (born 1832 in Peoria, IL and died 1910 in Nebraska) was the sister of my great-great-grandfather Benjamin Frank Slane. William and Delilah Root had 3 sons - Albert (1855-1938), John (1868-1951) and Waldo. I wonder if William Root was related to your Royal Root ? Mel Slane Peoria
20. Re: [ILPEORIA-L] Musgraves and Proctor Home [1]
Proctor Home was more a retirement home with some nursing facilities, as I recall. There was also a Buehler Home that was a retirement home. This goes back to a time when nursing homes as such did not exist. Dick.
21. Re: [ILPEORIA-L] Musgraves and Proctor Home [1]
Proctor Home was on Spring Street where it runs into Glen Oak Avenue. It has been there in the 1930's at least until it moved. Proctor Hospital was on the corner of Second and Fisher and the nurses' home was a block away on Second Street. Dick.
22. Charles Fisher of Muskingum County, OH: Correction [1]
Correction. In my message sent a few minutes ago, I referred to Charles Fisher as born in Adamsville, Muskingum County, OH and moved to Peoria, IL. In fact, he was probably born in Madison Township, Muskingum County, OH, on his father's farm. It is also possible that he was born in the City of Zanesville, also in Muskingum County. 23. Musgraves and Proctor Home [1]
Hi! I just wanted to thank you all for your help. Each item that I received has given me a piece to the puzzle, and now it's almost all together. The 1930 census shows James and Elizabeth Ella Musgrave as "inmates" at the Proctor House or Proctor Home. Can anyone tell me what the Proctor House is? Was it a nursing home (hopefully)? Thanks again to you all for your kind help! - Jean Griesan
