There is useful info on Henry M. Cowden and his family beginning
with the 1860 census. Although I am not prepared to do research on

but no direct relationship. If you want this info, please resend to
the rootsweb query address. Prefer to share info w/all.
Note that there MIGHT also be some info available in one of the

Elias CAREY, his wife Jane MOON CAREY, and their children moved to Shelby
County between 1868 and 1870. I they may have lived in Big Spring Township.
I am seeking information on Elias and Jane and their decendants. I would be
interested in exchanging information with anyone researching these lines.

Has anyone seen anything on William McDaniel and Ellen Fletcher who had a
daughter, Mary Ellen, born in Cowden in 1864? she later married Charles
Snow in Shelby County in 1884. Any tidbits would be a blessing. Luck to
everyone who has hit a brick wall. Sandy Snow DiLorenzo in Louisiana

According to his Civil War pension file, my great great grandfather,
Alois Hildenbrand, lived in Tower Hill, Shelby County, from 1872 to
1883. His obituary from Wichita, Kansas, in 1886, alludes to his
membership in the Grand Army of the Republic at the time of his death.
Does anyone know where I can find records for the Grand Army of the
Republic in Illinois?
Thanks,

Anyone needing US census records should check out http://www.allcensus.com .
You can get any census records from 1790 thru 1920 on CD-ROM and thus view
them on your own computer and use a graphics program to enlarge or enhanse

Having recently received a marriage license certificate for one of my
PONSLER ancestors I thought I would try again BUT am not sure what "the
charge of $5.00 covers only a five year period for searching" really means.
Does that mean $5.00 per name in a 5 year period or if in any case I have an
actual date do they still charge the $5.00 fee for looking it up + the cost
of the copy? Since many of mine would be prior to 1916 it states they can
be purchased for $1.00 (now is this plus the $5.00 fee if I have t
Dottie,
Cowden was laid out and plotted by John Maguire on April 15, 1872,
under the supervision of H.M. Cowden, whom the city was named after.
This information I got from the 1881 Combined History of Shelby and
Moultrie county. There is no bio on H.M. Cowden.
Hope this bit of information helps.
