Everybody, including me past the test. The only reason I sent the test was because for some unknown reason I was bounced off the Cook Co., mailing list. I've since resubscribed. Missy
2. Home Guard [1]
I'm not sure if this applies to the question on Will Co concerning the Civil War HOME GUARD, but in Missouri, there were Home Guard units made up mainly of German immigrants. They appear to have mostly taken part in local skirmishes due to Missouri's volitile position in the Civil War. The Germans were mostly all on the side of the Union. You could do a Google Search and read more about Missouri's home guard and have an idea of the mindset of the units and the men. From what I've read, some of the

My husbands great grandfather, Isaac " Lewis " Burdick was a member of Co. D 100th Illinois Infantry from Will Co. IL and died in 1902 and is buried in Union Cemetery, North of Meno, Major Co. OK He was married to Mary Louis Countryman also from Will Co. IL. Anyone looking for them? 8. Civil War Home Guard, Illinois [1]
Recently on the history channel (back in January, I believe), there was a special on a Civil War prisoner of war camp near the present day University of Illinois site. My memory is foggy on most of the details of the show, but it seems that the Home Guard played some role in running that prison. I seem to remember something about ''Cottaqe Grove'' as the location. You might try running a Google search on civil war prisons in Illinois, and you might find a ''back door'' to the Home Guard.

15. Home Guard [1]
I've been researching in Will County for more years than I care to admit to, but I have never come across a reference to a Home Guard. The closest thing I can find to it is the fact that the Illinois General Assembly in 1861 passed a law requiring that the townships prepare a list of able-bodied, free, white males between the ages of 18 and 45, subject to military duty. As far as I know, the lists were to be filed with the Clerk of the County Court and the Adjutant General's Office in Springfield. The l
16. One more Home Guard comment [1]
I forgot to add that I don't remember seeing any of the Missouri Home Guard units named with numbers or letters. They were typically named after whoever commanded them, one of the more famous in Missouri being Kraeckel. (not 100% sure of that spelling). Julie Bissell Tupker
