Hi Pam,
Would you be requesting the obit for a Gene Lewis, Mother to Mickey, Karen,
Nancy, Brenda and another son Banks? If so she was a dear friend to my
Mother Sarah Sue Cook who passed away in 1987. I called her Aunt Gene as I
knew her my entire life. She was there for me when My Mom died. She lived
in Grabil, Indiana when she died. If she is the one you are looking for an
obit for, I would like one to. I live in Florida and was not told when she
died. We found out when my Daughter called to check o

Karen,
Huntertown Cemetery is a public cemetery.
I drove past 2421 Spy Run today. There is a Burger King at that approximate
location.

Karen,
The homestead owned by the Jordans is your ancestors former land. I gave
your e-mail address to the family and printed out all the queries and
answers. I hope they send you an e-mail, but I don't believe I should be
involved. They thought the neighbors farm may have been where the slave
tunnels were, but not theirs. Jean
Hi Jo Ann!

street from the church? From the township map I'm looking at, the Reinhold

Thanks to one VERY SPEEDY AND HELPFULL subscriber to this list, I'm back
with a refinement to my earlier posting on the same subject. What I
should have asked for is the current location and name for what most
likely would have been the OLD POSTAL RURAL ROUTE #8 in 1914 that the
Fort Wayne Postoffice used.
Again, thanks a bunch for any further help you may provide. Bill R
Karen and Diane,
I had the opportunity to drive past the farm house yesterday! Although it
was a quick pass, I was in a hurry, and had a car behind me (of course!).
It appears that the house Diane mentioned MAY be the home you are looking
for! The name Jordan was on the mailbox.
The home appears well kept.
It was located about a 1/2 mile (give or take) south of the church. Coming
from the south, the farm is on "the level plain."
A short distance north of the farm, the landscape starts to "drop" into t

I have read with great interest the correspondence on Dutch Ridge. I
believe that in the early 1960s, I lived in the house of which you speak.
It was a remodeled, 2-story farmhouse on the west side of Old Auburn Road,
just south of Chapman Road. It was owned by a family named Jordan, and had
been previously owned by a family named Parrot. From my second floor
apartment window, I could see the Church and school and cemetery. If I
remember correctly, the school had already been converted to living
Was Huntertown Cemetery just a public cemetery or was it a church's cemetery?
Some of our MYERS family members are buried there and some are buried in
Dutch Ridge Cemetery. I'm trying to figure out why they weren't all buried
in the same cemetery.
Interestingly, someone is putting flowers on Israel and Catharine Myers'
grave markers in Huntertown Cemetery. Obviously, we've got family in the
area that we don't know about! I would really, really love to connect to
these folks.
Thanks,
Karen

Dave,
I did know that the school and the church are now private residences. My
father visited Allen County last month and took pictures of both. I'm glad
they aren't standing deserted. I was worried about development of this area
-- I'm glad to hear there is still farming going on.
I'm not sure how far down from the intersection of Auburn and Chapman Roads
the old Myers residence was (is?). The township map for 1898 shows it
directly south of the church, but no indication as to distance. The Mye
Diane,
This is so interesting! I wonder if that house is still standing? Maybe it
did belong to my Myers family long, long ago! Can you tell me about how far
(south) down the road it was from the intersection of Chapman and Auburn Road?

Hi Karen!
No Myers connection, but I do live near the Auburn Rd. Do you know the
specific location that you are looking for?
I remember someone talking about a location at the DeKalb Co. line a while
back, is this the same location?

Karl,
Well . . . I've never been to Allen County, so I'm just going to "wing it."
On the 1880 and 1898 township maps, the residence on the Myers land is the
first residence shown south of Dutch Ridge Church, along Auburn Road. Now, I
don't know what the lay of the land is now -- maybe it's built up and there
are lots of residences there (like here, where I live, where farmland is only
a sweet memory).

Does anyone know the current location and name of Indiana Rural Route
#8, from turn-of-the-century times (1914)?? My grandfather Ernst Carl
Rietdorf claimed that as his address on his Petition For Naturalization
in that year. I have my suspicions as to loc. and name, but I need to
verify for the record.
Thanks a lot for whatever help you can provide. Bill Rietdorf

Karen,
I sent to the Railroad Retirement Board and got records for my
great-grandfather in 1994. This has been a number of years ago so I do not
know what they might charge. They sent me a history of his employment and his
pension. It was very helpful to me and give me a number of leads.

Judy,
I would sure love a list of the Myers, Garman, Reinhold, Fredrick and
