Is there an index for Indiana, of men who served in the Mexican War from
the state of Indiana. Does anyone have access to it. I am looking for a
Phillip Kramer.

Deborah, I don't know anything about those names. I did check the
current phone directory. There are no GEISS names at all but a ton of
SCHERERs.
Do you have these listed on the Allen County USGenWeb page? (Can't
remember the all).

Sharon, if you have some specific things that you'd like me to look for
let me know as I live in Fort Wayne and could check the city directories
for you. I'd need exact name and dates that you think they might have
been here i.e. owned dairy when? in orphanage when? (it would probably
be listed in the city directory.)

Howdy,
Looking for a cousin of mine who might still be alive in Ft. Wayne. His
name is Howard Abraham Jr. Last I knew of him was from his father's obit
in Indy dated Jan 1975. Couldn't find a phone number on internet for
him. Could someone check the local Ft. Wayne phone directory for him?
Also, how many cemeteries are in the Ft. Wayne area, I have a couple
more cousins buried in the county somewhere & don't know any death dates
or locations right now. Thought I might write letters to ALL of them.

Anybody know what happened (if anything) to Jerilyn, who offered to do
Indiana and Ohio lookups for a modest fee??? She had a website which
has come up "Not Found" the last few days; her email was something with
Jailbird in it. Hello, hello - earth to Jerilyn...

I think you and I are the only ones on the list right now so I thought I
would run a test.
I bet you didn't know I had this address ;}

Hi All Allen Co Researchers & Deborah,
I am not a Scherer researcher but I went to school
with Bev Scherer from Hoagland. She was a gr-granddaughter
of David Charles McKeeman as I am too. Her father was
Delbert Scherer. Delbert was the son of Verdy Scherer
and Marguerite Mercer. Marguerite Mercer was the daughter
of Nancy McKeeman and Robert Mercer.
I have another Scherer connection:
Descendants of Charles SHERER
Generation No. 1

Well, there are at least a couple of us.
I am searching for additional information on the family that adopted my
grandmother, Lelah Miller, about 1903 from the Allen County Orphans Home.
She was adopted by Louis J. (Jacob, I think) GEISS and Mary Elizabeth
CORDELL BROWN GEISS. Louis was the son of Jacob and Julia SCHERER GEISS.
Family lore has that Louis was on the board of the Orphans Home. He either
managed or owned (again, family lore) the Queen and Alaska Coal Companies
in Ft. Wayne. Louis and Mary
Hi, I am an adoptee who was born in Allen County. I am in the process of

files and it was granted. So now it is just a matter of time until the
confidential intermediary collects all of my data and pursues the contact
with them.

the paper work for the birth certificates and represented the birth mothers
in the adoptions. So the validity of the information is v
Frances, it's good to see your post. I don't have any Allen County
ancestors, I just live here. What years did your ancestors live here?
Do you have their death dates? Our obit index begins with 1870. If they
died before then I wouldn't be able to help.
What about their marriage dates. Do you have all of them? Our marrieages
start at 1824.

What are the names of your Hollopeter ancestors? I will be looking out for
them. I don't know where Lonie's husband was from but with the Hollopeter
name, they are probably all related. I know I have some info. in one of my
files on the Holopeters, though not alot. My grandfather, Jacob Miller,
was listed with Julia Hollopeter
as his stepdaughter. Colleen

Hello to all,
I am trying to research some of my family that lived in Allen County. The
name is COLVIN. Here is what I know and what family has told.
My Great Great Great Grandfather John R. Colvin was born Sept. 19, 1820 in OH
he married Mary Ann Pyle in Rush Co. IN, in 1848 both were buried in the
Lindenwood Cemetary. John in 1876 and Mary Ann in 1912.
They had 9 children:
William b. 1843 in Indiana d. Feb 13 1911 and is buried in Lindenwood. He
married 3 times, 1st to Mary Ann Clark 2nd to Mary E
BROWN FAMILY CEMETERY
Has anyone out there came across relatives buried in this cemetery? It
is on the MonroeTwp-Madison Twp (Allen Co.) border, I think by the corner
of Whittern & Hoagland Rds on the corner of a plat owned by Albert
Dawson. (Contact Mr. Dawson before visiting -- he's been known to deter
trespassers with a rifle.)
The heads of this family were Henry Brown & Mary Hoffman who were from
Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. They are my 3rd-Great Grandparents. It
appears that burials there were not
My Hollopeters are from the Leo/Cedar Creek Twp. area. I have a copy of The
Hollopeter Family Record which provides a lot of information on the
Hollopeters in the US prior to 1950-something.

Hi Dawnette,
My father's grandparents, Rebecca WARNER and Lewis KRUGLER, were from Allen
County, Indiana, and the name Hollopeter on your list rang a bell. A Wm.
C. Hollopeter was my great-grandmother Rebecca's guardian after the death
of her grandfather Joseph Warner in 1872. Rebecca's father had died during
the Civil War. I have a copy of the guardianship papers which include a
"Guardian's Current Report" which, I believe, is in Wiliam's handwriting.
If this William fits in your line and you would like

Here in CA we have a Bride/Groom Index on microfiche that is available at our
local family history centers. Is there anything equivalent for IN? Or is
there an Allen Co. index available? I am looking for information on my late
aunt's third marriage (ca. 1973/74), probably in the Fort Wayne area. Such an
index would be a great help.

Thought I would post a note to get our Allen County list going. Welcome
to those of you who have subscribed. Pass the word along.
I live in Fort Wayne and would be willing to look for obits for your
Allen County ancestors. If there are others who live here maybe you
would be willing to do look-ups too. I'll try it until I'm overwhelmed
with requests.

Jerry, I checked the phone directory and don't find your Howard
Abraham though there are four Abrahams listed.
There are many, many cemeteries in Allen County. Some of them are
listed on the Allen County Web page. You might check there.

Does Allen County have a Grantor/Grantee Index? I had a short visit at the
Tax Assessors Office last summer and they didn't have anything like that.
The only way they could track transfers was by a description of the property.
I have a research interest living in St Joseph Township in 1860 that appears
on the Agricultural Census. I would like to track down exactly where the
farm was.
