Dear Karla, My Godmother's name was Schuckman, and she was born near Allen Co. in 1900. Her father was instrumental in founding St. John Catholic Church in New Haven. Hi Gary, Birth records are available from 1882 - 1932 on microfilm at the Allen County Public Library. The Allen County Health Department has these same records, so there are none available for the time period you are researching. Dear Therese, My Godmother, Madeline Cavanaugh, nee Schuckman, was Virgil Schuckman's brother. She was also my Aunt, married to my father's brother, Donald Cavanaugh. I can tell you a bit about that family, if you're interested. I knew Virgil and Gertrude. Both are deceased, and buried in St. John Catholic Cemetery in New Haven, IN. I am looking for ANY information on the surname SHOOKMAN/SCHUCKMAN of Allen Co., Indiana. My g.g.grandfather Philip Shookman moved to Allen Co. about 1847 presumably with his parents and siblings as he was b.1834 and would only have been 13 at the time. The 1870 Allen County Census index which I have shows William Dafforer, Jr. on page 624 in Pleasant Township and William Daffron also on page 624. Might be your guy with a different spelling.
