Hi Debbie,
Although Phenis is not my direct line, I decend (by marriage) from
them. I'll share what I have on the Phenis name, and hope this helps
you.
John E. (or John F.) Phenis was born in 1854. He married Lorretta
(maiden name unknown). John & Lorretta had an infant son (b. 10 Sep
1889, d. 23 Sep 1889), and a daughter Lida, who lived until 4 Oct
1968. Lorretta died 13 Feb 1911. John Phenis then married Nancy

Brookville, IN. They liv
I have a copy of the small book written, by David S. Dreyer, called
_A History of Immigration to the Batesville Vicinity_
I would like to get a second copy to send to someone in Germany.
If There is a way I can purchase one I would like to know. If it gets on line
it would then be easier to send to Germany.
Regards to all

It is really hard to say, but 1848 may be a little early for details. The late
1800's are when the details were filled in for a license. It just depends on the
clerk at the time. Sorry I could not answer better...

Hi!
If you're looking at cemeteries, here's a puzzle that I've been trying to
solve for several years.
My 4th gr-grandfather, Peter Stone (aka Stein), came to America in the
1750's. He settled in Pendleton County, West Virginia (it was part of
Virginia at the time). He and members of his family eventually settled in
northern Dearborn County.
A Daughters of the American Revolution Report for 1931-32 includes Peter
in a list of graves of Revolutionary War soldiers. The report states that
he is buried

My gr-gr-grandfather, Richard Nichols (1785-1860), was an early settler of
Franklin County. He
is listed in the 1820 census. A couple of notes written by family members
many years ago
indicated that Richard was orphaned at an early age was was "bound out" to
learn the trade of
coverlet weaving. Richard was definitely a weaver. A picture of one of his
works appear in a book
about Indiana weavers.
The 1850 census indicated that Richard was born in Delaware. I did search

Carrie,
All that will be on the marriage record are the dates, the name of the bride and
groom and the name and office of the person that married them, but you should
always look at the original anyway. The best way to take a look at this is to go
to your nearest Family History Center (listed under Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints in the phone book) where you may order the microfilm copy of the
original marriage register for, I believe, $3.25 for a month's rental.
Hope this helps. If you have
Pat ,
I found the bonds of indenture for my great-grandfather and his siblings in
the probate files which the administrator of the estate turned over to the
Johnson County, Iowa, court when the estate was closed. These were not the
recorded wills, inventories, etc., but loose files of receipts and papers
having to do with the estate which were stored in file boxes. Fortunately,
these records were microfilmed before they were destroyed. I don't know what
the practice may have been in Franklin Cty, IN, but ho

Jane...I was just at the cemetery in St Leon checking on a couple of things for a
gentleman in California and I remember the name of Regensburger in that cemetery and
I faintly remember seeing the name Alois. St Leon is just across the county line in
Dearborn County, Indiana. Just thought I would pass that along...

About a year ago on one of my "days of desperation ," I sent a letter
requesting any information about my grandmother, Nettie Stewart, whom I knew
to be Methodist, to the church in Brookville.
I received a very kind reply from Rev. Don Miller, giving me the information
he found, including her previously unknown to me middle name, Webb. New doors
were opened with this information and it was all very helpful.
For anyone interested the address is the Brookville United Methodist Church,
150 E. 8th St.
Jane,
You need to look for a death record, either in the county where he lived or
through the Indiana Department of Health. If you located him in the census, I
would try the county department of health of the county where he lived in
1910. Guess that would be Franklin County.
I do Indiana research professionally. If you want me to search for this
record for you, I work for $10.00 an hour plus expenses. My web page
(http://www.angelfire.com/in/indianagenealogy/index.html) gives more detail on
my terms.
I have just been released from the local hospital after a six day stay with
pneumonia, so this is to serve notice that if I owe you a response for an
e-mail or if I still need to get you copies of Franklin County Biographies, I
am working on that in the next couple of hours. I am sorry for the slow
response, but my health through me for a loop. But I am back and will be off
of work for several days, so I should be able to get caught up. Thanks to
everyone for your patience....

Does there exist any church records or church histories for Franklin county?
The marriage license of my gr-grandparents, Alexander W. Johnston and
Elizabeth E. Hays, issued in 1853, lists the marriage ceremony performed by
Thomas Williams, Minister of the Gospel in the M.E. Church.
Thanks for any information....
