Gibson County History Buffs,
Going through some notes taken some time ago and came across one made from
the "History of Gibson County, Indiana" by Gil R. Stormont. May have been
on page 340 of that book. Mention is made of three forts in Patoka
Township. These were Fort Branch, Fort Hopkins, and "one at William
Harrington's on the old McCurdy place."
I would like to learn more about Fort Hopkins. One of the surnames I am
researching is Hopkins and Patoka Township, Gibson County is the right area.

Hi, Thanks for the info. My relatives are Elijah and Moses and William
Goodwin. My (Goodwin/Johnson/Crabtree) relatives were also the ones who
founded the Old Union Church in Johnson Twp, and later (because of a
dispute) broke off of Old Union and went to White Co, IL, and founded Seven
Mile Prairie Church. I was born in Evansville and moved outside of
Cynthiana when I was 10, and never knew my relatives had an impact on the
early history of Posey/Gibson Counties. I would love to know where these

Hello All,
Ft. Hopkins was named after Captain Henry Hopkins, who came to the county
around 1808 and settled on the Sanford Howe place. He raised a company of
Pioneers from the area and trained them to fight Indians. In 1811 he took
his company to Vincennes, and joined General Harrison's army in the
campaign against Tecumseh.
I grew up across the road from the location of the old fort. On the other
side of the cemetery to the East was the location of the Robert Archer
homestead. I remember when I was

Hello,
Fort Hopkins was located in the Northeast Quarter of Section 1, Twp.2
South, Range 11 West. This is about one mile North of Princeton, on the
hill a few hundred feet West of Archer cemetery. This is also less than a
mile South of Lathom cemetery, which contains some of your Morrison and
Lathom Ancestors.
You can see the location on a map by going to the Gibson county Cemeteries
website, select Archer Cemetery, or go here:

Hello Gibson County Listers,
Still searching for the unknown HOPKINS who was the first husband of my
great, grandmother, Lydia Elizabeth SPENCER. Lydia was the daughter of John
D. SPENCER and Frances E. PARR, and was born October 10, 1851 in Gibson
County, Indiana. It was probably about 1870 that she married Mr. HOPKINS
because their son, James Edgar HOPKINS, was born January 22, 1871. There
was also another child, Marley HOPKINS who died at the age of one year.
Lydia Elizabeth HOPKINS married my great
